    hi guys
    I have cleaned my m17 with compressed air, now my gpu fan doesn't run.I have contacted alienware, they want me to send my system (they refuse to ship me the heat sink..... :eek: lol) 12 business days is long period and I'm ready to loose my warranty for that . Can someone tell me if i can buy the gpu heat sink elsewhere. :confused:
    thank you

    for starters, open your rig up and make sure the fan cables are still plugged in. then, remove the fan from your system (aren't the heatsinks and the fans separate?) and carefully try to get the fan to run with an external battery just make sure you know which connectors are for the power, and which for regulating the fan speed.

    yes they are seperate in our system i have looked around alot in there lol

    really thats stupid and you can proably find a new fan on ebay and use it.....they would never even look

    i have seen direct blast of canned air unbalance a fan and make it grind and srew it up pretty bad but never kill it lol

    the cables are fine, m17 has the fan attached to the heat sink. and testing it with external power is not possible as it has three wires going in.

    shouldn't one be red, one black, and one yellow? of of those is for the fan speed, the others for power.

    i would gander:

    red = +
    blk = -
    ylw = speed

    just a guess from previous electronics uses. but there is no set standards for these type of items.
