either it's me (most likely) or i have recieved some crap.
just recieved m15x with nvidia geforce 260m and after experiencing crap for frame rate on call of duty, i had the help of my (water cooled beast of death computer making friend) to reinstall the latest drivers for the card.

didn't do a thing for improvement.

this thing wont make it through the first level of cod4 without freezing up. i used fraps to watch the rates and it starts out around 28 then as soon as you start moving it's around 12 fps

Need help to figure out whats goin on. thought these were suppossed to be BA laptops.

I mean honestly my buddies piece of crap 5 year old computer is running better than this thing.

it says that it's recognizing all 8 drivers or whatever and that there's nothing wrong and the settings are set for performance.

HELP. im about to send it back to alienware and tell em to send my money back.

    Hello sir!

Its a shame your having issues, at present m15x suffers from throttling, so heres what were going to do.

    A) Check your not in stealth mode,

    B) Download the tool known as GPU-z, when thats done, open that up and click monitor while in background (or something like that) it should be a checkbox so not too hard to find.

When setup with GPU-z have that run, launch call of duty and play it a bit with the frame fluctuation you are describing, after 2 minutes, possibly 5, alt tab to gpu-z, take a screenshot and post it here.

Oh and...Welcome to the forum :) we will crack this issue right open.

Yeah, basically since the m15x suffers from throttling (bios related, turns it it does have enough power after all :) )

We have to find out if the 260m is throttling clocks, and if it is, we then have to lock them with a tool called rivatuner.

I second the possibility you're in stealth mode (which you can go to even with laptop set to performance). Hit the far right light above the top row (above the delete key). The tachometer that shows on screen should have no dial visible if stealth mode is off. I have M15x and zero problems with any game I've thrown at it yet (unless I accidently have stealth mode on)...

Yep, stealth mode is sneaky alright haha, but its definately worth checking.

I think its throttling (from msi tool) And the cod picture, did you check stealth?

If you have, im going to refer you to a thread which has had extensive research behind it, and its been sucessfull for all the m15x owners as far as im aware, first page is very easy to follow and the creator of the guide is active to answer any more questions (if need be i will try and have an alienware moderator merge this into the throttling thread/alienware section.)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=439546

follow it closely and your m15x should run circles around that game. :)

Avoid flashing the GPU though, just stick with throttlestop and rivatuner.

I suggest checking stealth as was mentioned, if that doesn't fix the problem, return it, especially if your within 21 days of recieving it and go for the M17X revison ;) Thats what I'm doing and I'm in this sand box as well

Yup! Put in some extra bucks and you have: a single HD 4870, 4GB Memory in standard configure, RBG LED screen, no throttling issue.

Folks have been finding 'tape' on their heatsinks too. The GPU will overheat, throttle, cool down, go back to regular speed, wash/rinse/repeat.
