Something funny has happened to my m15x after I connected it to my new HDTV. I fiddled around with the display settings in the nvidia control panel to get my monitors set up and then played some games for a bit. It worked fine but for some reason the audio only came from the m15x speakers and not the TV. Later on I just browsed the web and such after disconnecting from the TV and now the sound will not work. I realised that when I connected to the TV I didnt press the Fn + F6 combo (HDMI/LCD). Could this have caused the problem ? The speakers and headphones dont work. I tried reinstalling the Realtek drivers but that did not work. I also tried doing a system restore to a time before connecting the TV but that did not fix the sound.

Please help, I am stumped as to what to do next

Try going to the control panel > Sound settings> look for something like Change speaker settings and make sure realktek is check not Nvidia HD..

I would suggest taking a close look at your playback devices. Make sure that your internal speakers are selected as a default. Sometimes it can get stuck in HDMI or headphones. Also, some TVs are really picky about sound through HDMI. Just to avoid potential problems, make sure and boot your computer with the HDMI cable connected. After your TV properly recognizes your computer and adjusts the display accordingly, then look at your sound. Open playback devices and make sure your computer made the switch to HDMI. If it did, try adjusting the volume on your TV. Some TVs require that you change the volume before they recognize the HDMI sound (not quite sure why this is).

Under the playback tab, there are two options

1] Speakers : REaltek High Definition Audio (Workin)

2] Realtek Digital Output : Realtek High Definition Output (Working)

The second option is selected. Selected the first and tried but still no sound. Which one should be selected ideally ?

    EDIT :
GabeZ : Would it fix my comp if I connected to the TV and set up the sound ? If not, then it isnt as important as getting the sound working on my laptop.

    Hi Mortis,
The first option should be selected for your internal speakers. Make sure you have it set as default audio device. If it fails to work after that, I would check your mixer to see that the volume bars are all the way up. As far as connecting it to the TV for internal sound setup, I don't think it would help. I would try to get your internal speakers working before moving forward.

Eh, when I had this problem, I just restarted the computer with the HDMI input already plugged in.

I tried selecting the first option as default but still did not get any sound. All the volume sliders were maxed out.

Ill try restarting with the HDMI cable in. Is there a particular way to disconnect an external monitor to prevent this ? I just unplugged the HDMI cable :p

Ok I connected it to the tv and now its all sorted. Thanks a lot everyone !!

Another sound issue I have been having is while watching streaming videos on the net like, the sound is fine when the video is minimised but when I change to fullscreen, the sound starts crackling/distorting after about 2 mins. Anyone know what could be up with that ?
