I compared two systems, one on Dell vs HIDevolution and Dells list price was $3995 and HIDevolution was $4025 for the same machine. This makes sense as there is very little profit in hardware these days. Every time I get a quote from a Dell reseller I end up back at Dell. Also keep in mind that you can negotiate a 10-15% discount from Dell yourself. I have tried to buy a few servers this way from resellers and in the end it was cheaper to buy form Dell directly with discount.

the point about hidevolution is that they will ship overseas to countries where dell wont sell laptops (or there is a major price difference). Obviously for US customer that doesnt make sense

    It's $2393.50 (Laptop + 2nd Business Day Delivery Option) + Shipping (Fed Ex = $85.50)

    That's what they emailed me.

Has anyone ever purchased through them? I need some leverage xD

also make sure you get the right warranty (might want to talk to dell, either email or chat) so that you are covered internationally. As far as I know the basic 1 year warranty doesnt cover international support

Even though alienware has made use of dell's seller networks. the brand is still non-existent in some countries, sales and support are difficult (or impossible) to get.

With "Dell' it is sometimes possible to get international warranty support, if you go to the right place. however whether they are willing to do the same with alienware, is a complete unknown.

so when you are in the Middle East or Africa, in most areas you can forget about any kind of service, sales, warranty.

Based on the quote you received for shipping I'm assuming that you're in the US?
If so, I would order directly from Dell US if I were in your position.

If not, and you're looking to order from Dell US internationally, check out mFractal's excellent thread on how to order from Dell US and have it shipped to another country here.
(Just be sure to do your homework as you're liable for import duties/taxes on top of the purchase price in most countries).

As far as HID Evolution is concerned, the only feedback I can provide personally is that when I sent in a request for a quote they were very fast and professional in their response. I remember seeing good feedback about them in the forums too as that is what led me to them initially.

I do not know if my experience was typical, but I bought a M17x R2 from HID Evolution and emailed them directly (based on an Ebay ad) and got a price much lower than what Dell offered. I'm in Ohio (in the U.S.), and while the unit took forever to ship--it was back in May when it took a while to get an RGB screen--it arrived, brand new, in good working order. This being Alienware, though, I had several hardware issues which resulted in three trips to my office from a Dell technician, and ultimately a shipment to Dell's Texas repair depo. I had no problems with Dell honoring the warranty (HID Evolution might ship overseas, but for systems they send to the states the warranty is good in the U.S.). HID Evolution was also very good about communicating the status of the order whenever I emailed, which was pretty often given the delay.

And to stress the point, I didn't go through ebay for the purchase since HID has its own online store.

So, if HID quotes you a better price than the Dell rep, I wouldn't think twice about going through them. They appear to be a regular Dell dealer, and I can say with confidence that you won't have problems with the warranty. Because I have had to invoke the warranty aplenty, and I now (finally) have a good working machine.

    hi all,

i've recently purchased a lappy from HIDevolution. I live outside the US so their delivery range is certainly impressive. The delivery took a week thru fedex which was acceptable and the staff were friendly. I had problems and spec question along the way and they gladly helped me. However, the power cord wasnt suited so caused a hassle. The recovery disc wasnt included which i found out later wasnt free anymore.

then again, the prices they quote r relatively cheaper compared to bigger online retailers so that was good.

overall, a fair and trustworthy reseller, don't expect too much reputation and support but for the price, its booyah!!
