Having lots of fun with this whole Afterburner OSD thing now that I have finally stopped Afterburner from crashing my system! (I set UnofficialOverclockingMode = 0 in the cfg). Previosuly I was using HWiNFO to display some numbers on my Logitech G13 LCD, but it's much more convenient having it on-screen.

I have a question regarding the "reliability" of the monitoring of the memory usage. During gaming I'm being told I'm hitting as high as 1.6GB of GPU1 memory usage. Each one of my 5870Ms only has 1GB memory so...

    >>> is the mem usage simply being doubled as a result of having 2 cards in xfire or is something else afoot?

    Thanks guys!

I can't get the OSD to show up in Metro2033. I've tried added a profile for it in Afterburner OSD and setting the application detection level to high to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, TY!

I think you guys are misunderstanding me. The guide says to follow it exactly, to have the columns exactly as they appear in the spoilers. But I can't, as it will not let me check the boxes for rivatuner. They are greyed out. I didnt want to move forward without settings being exact.

If Metro 2033 is a 64bit game, the OSD program will not work. (Same as 3DMark11 64bit.) I don't know if Metro 2033 is 64bit or not... but, should be fairly simple to find out.

OK, I have experienced this before. Two things can be causing it.

First possibility... you may not be using the correct version of Afterburner.

Second possibility... Be sure OSD is set to start with Windows. It can be deceiving because it will look like it has launched even though it has not activated the RivaTuner OSD service. Also, Afterburner and OSD must be launched and active before HWiNFO64 launches.

Mr.Fox and fellow NBR members there is great news. The problems of running HWiNFO with RTSS OSD Server, especially when you don't have RTSS running before HWiNFO sensors, it won't notice that it's loaded. Mumak has graciously spent time on this issue and now the new HWiNFO release will have the ability to have HWiNFO configured w/o RTSS and also make it that HWiNFO sensors will constantly scan if the OSD Server is launched and then send data to it. The new version is being finalized now so in the next day or so you will be able to download this new version and not care which app starts first either. I have fully tested the new version beta just a few minutes ago and works flawless.

    Thank you Mumak :)

Hmm... I switched to taskmanager and the metro.exe had *32 next to it so I assume this means it's a 32bit game? Google didn't yield any coherent answer, just a bunch of people flaming each other over the issue of Metro being 32 or 64 bit

Anyone know if Metro is 32 or 64 bit?

That is wonderful news, Brother RV. I'll be ready to start using the new version as soon as it is released. Let me know when it's ready and I will update the start of the thread. And yes, thanks Mumak.
 I'm not sure what this is in reference to.
Hey, glad to help. No need to feel anything but happy that it's fixed. Since I knew what was wrong, it's obvious that I had done the same thing before. I just made the same mistake before you, that's all. ;)
And, Task Manager doesn't tell lies, Brother Wonderpookie. Neither does Afterburner OSD. It is 32bit for sure. Now you can go back to that thread and set the bickering children straight on what's up. Not sure why Metro 2033 did not work for you... see benchmark screen shot below. Maybe it is one of the setting in Afterburner OSD. Have a look at the screen shot of OSD that I posted for mediafriend and see if anything looks different in your OSD settings compared to mine.

Are your GPUs overclocked? I know it seems like an unusual question, but I have sometimes (not often) noticed in-game audio distortion when playing with the GPUs overclocked, but I've not noticed it when they are not.

Did you try the alternate settings for HWiNFO64? Are you using the Dell EC or Compal EC with HWiNFO64? (This is covered in a couple of spots in the thread.) There are DPC latency problems if you use the wrong settings and that could be causing the audio glitches.

also a chance could be if you've changed the sample rate at which your audio plays... 44khz or 48khz is usually default in audio options of windows for your sound card it says DVD platback etc...

No, I haven't overclocked my GPUs, at least to my knowledge. I'm currently working with dell tech support about a potential overheating situation hence my desire to monitor heat/performance in general. Thanks for the feedback guys, I've changed my audio settings and I'm about to try it out. hope it works!

    edit
didn't work. going to look for and try these alternate settings.

Okay got it working fine. But the sound problems still persist. I've got it set to 48k "dvd" quality. and alternate HWinfo set up, still have tiny hangs and sound hiccups. but they're gone when i disable HWinfo. Maybe I'm not set up properly.

Open the INI file and temporarily change the ones to zeros on these lines and it will open again.

    MinimalizeMainWnd=1
    MinimalizeSensors=1

These are near the bottom of the INI file. Save the INI file, but leave it open. After launching HWiNFO64 and accessing the main configuration you can change them back to ones and close/save the INI file again.

You can use the word spoiler between [ and ] before the information and /spoiler between [ and ] at the end of the information you want in a spoiler. I just fixed your post. If you edit it, you will see exactly what I am referring to.

I have been able to use the MSI afterburner overlay for my 675m's.

I have not tried tying in the CPU temp monitoring yet (I don't have an XM processor, so I'm not too concerned about CPU temps - I just run HWMonitor and check the max after I play for while).

I don't know if it matters, but I'm still using the OEM drivers that came with it (296.39).

    Hope this helps.

Edit: Also, thanks for putting this together Mr. Fox!

You're welcome. And, no it doesn't matter what driver you're using as long as it works well for you. Nothing else matters. The latest driver is not always the greatest driver. I'm using 295.51 because it is more stable with overclocking than the newer drivers, and it plays all my games flawlessly.

For the 7970m HWiNFO reads the temps properly and can be added as in the OP to the afterburner OSD. Mumak and SVL7 worked together to get it to work. The sensor is read via the GPUI2C option etc and one of the sensors needs to be disabled in gpuI2c to prevent bsod/lockup. The new HWiNFO allows individual GPUI2C sensors to be disabled for compatibility and stability purposes.

I'm sorry shotup, but I don't know the answer to that one. That's way more information than I need so I have not attempted to add any more lines than what my how to guide shows. It seems that perhaps there is a limitation to how many lines can be displayed.

I'll look into the issue I wouldn't just blame HWiNFO though. It's probably the limits of the rivatuner statistic server which after burner osd is based on.

HWiNFO new version coming will have GPUI2C sensors for 7970m disabled for stability. Sensor 3,4,5 should be disabled as of recent tests. Or disable GPUI2C completely.

I'll see what I can find on a line limit to either rivatuner statistic server or HWiNFO's RTSS integration.

I'm sure I'm missing something silly, but I can't figure it out. :(

I can't run MSI Afterburner at all. I install the 2.2.0 Beta and when I try to start it, it says some components are expired, missing, or corrupt. I've tried DLing & reinstalling from the web link 3 times, same every time.

I'm going to they the latest version, I guess, but if I read the thread correctly, that can cause missing options? Is this true & is there something else I can try?

Are your tray icons set to "show all" or are some hidden? (right click taskbar>properties>customize notification area - bottom right, check the box for "show all"......)

EDIT: Just remembered that if you have the windows actually open on view for Afterburner etc, they obviously wont show in yout tray area until you minimize them - after a reboot, assuming you set to "minimize on startup", you should see them in your tray....alternatively, just minimize them and they will appear!

Well, no, but even checking the hidden ones it's not there. But just to be sure I went in and set it to show all, and it's still not there. :(

To be clear, HW Info is in the Systray, but not either icon for Afterburner. And Afterburner is running. I also have the option for Riva Tuner greyed out in config on HWInfo.

What is the second installer that came with Afterburner, MSI Kombustor? I didn't touch it because it wasn't explicitly mentioned. Is this needed and is this my problem?

edit: Seems Kombustor is a separate application for finding OC limits? I shouldn't need that. Darn, this is deceptively simple and I'm missing something important. Read through the thread again and can't find anything I haven't tried short of a reboot, so am trying that now.

You dont NEED Kombustor, thats just a gpu stress testing app like Furmark....if you look at my previous post, I edited it.....try just minimizing the Afterburner windows and then they should appear in your tray - they wont be there whislt you are viewing them.

OK, so only have 1 icon in tray though, not 2. And still no option for RIVA Tuner in HWInfo, all greyed out. I seem to be missing OSD.

Got it. Real face/palm moment. I didn't have any items in AB Preferences set to view in OSD, and once I did that, it appeared.

    Thanks, good to know. +Rep.
Quick question though. Do I really need to run these at startup? Couldn't I just run them when I want to start monitoring, like when I'm about to start a game? I do lots of other stuff I don't necessarily need to monitor my GPU for.

Edit: NVM. Working now, though I've got no idea what I did or why... Tried one last try at shutting down both programs and re-launching, and suddenly I can select RIVA Tuner. Yay! :)
Knock on wood, no more idiocy from me tonight. :D

You're most welcome, my dearest Alien Sister.

So, did your hubby decide he needs one of these bad boys yet? Maybe he can get an M18x so he can enjoy the power and superiority that us male types thrive on. ;)

    ROFL! :D
My better half does like my machine and is a little tiny bit jealous, but more because of the look than anything else. This could be because she lacks the testosterone ;) (just to be up front), but I think it has more to do with she's just not technologically inclined, and isn't a gamer. Her prioities in a machine are lightweight portability with a larger screen for streaming video & multi-tasking. That said, I think she should get one anyway. :D

Now my Dad, on the other hand... We have an ongoing friendly arms race over who's got the biggest & best tech. He has me beat in TV & cell phones, but I'm winning in household computers. He hasn't seen my beast yet, but hears me crow about it often enough that he's looking forward to checking it out. I expect he'll get an m18x once he gets a look at Skyrim on mine - which he hasn't seen yet either. LOL, we used to play King's Quest and Hitchhiker's Guide on Apple IIe together. :p

I've also got a few guys here at work interested in getting one too. Maybe their manager will approve it, they could use the power. :D

Sorry, I must have misread one of your posts earlier, referring to your DAD rather than your HUSBAND. I apologize for the confusion, my Alien BROTHER. :D

Whoa, Mr. Fox. I see you finally succumbed to temptation and crossed over. Incredible scores in Vantage and Mark11. When I saw 4.7GHz on that 2920XM, I knew that new a/c was earning its keep. Awesome performance. Awesome, awesome, awesome. So what about the 680M? Looks interesting. :) :) +Rep all over the place when allowed.

Thanks, Brother Revelator. ;) Yes, indeed. I will be watching NVIDIA GTX 680M SLI developments with great interest. In the meanwhile, AMD 7970M CF is the "beast du jour" - and how!
