Okay this is unofficial but I've done this on my m15x and it works. It's a very simple fix but when you think about the theory it makes sense.

Step 1: Get your fingers and push down hard, just above the bluetooth, wireless, command and stealth. push down and hold down for as long as you can, or about 30 seconds

Step 2: Release and then lightly touch one of the icons and look at the new responsive :)

Step 3: Repeat on the other side next to the volume if you have unrespoeive for volume control.

I take no resposibilty for damages that you may do.

Mine are extremely responsive now. This works best once the laptop is on and the plastic is warm. :)

I know people have been having problems with the touch keys, so I'm sure this would be useful.

Though I'm curious, which components do you pressure together when you push down right above the buttons, maybe when I get my M17x I can open it up and find a more permanent solution.

the idea of pushing really hard on my notebook does not appeal to me. Has to be a better way.

I think its probably because they don't install it too tightly on so sometimes when you push the plastic it doesnt have contact.

Instead of using your hands I think a needle nose pliers would work better since the pressure is more evenly applied. Place a cloth around the pliers to prevent scratching.

Also keep in mind the OP is referring to his m15x. Not sure the solution would yield the same results on the new M17x.

how about we use common sense and use a plastic tool an pop off the touch panel and gently reapply them then pop it back on ;)

The moo, it's such a simple thing to do that you dont need to do that.
It's not ahrd enough pressure to break anything , it justpushes everything back togeather.

I now can gently place my fingers on any of them and they work no hassle, before I had to push ridicously hard :S.

If you want to use it, fine, great. If you don't then your hard luck :)

EDIT: themoo: how are you meant to pop off the touch panel :S, it's all embedded from the outside.

ok since its all built in you will need to disassemble the laptop .....

I was incorrect in m posting and i will admit i was wrong ...95% of lapops touch panels pop off but as usual the m15x design was ... backwards
