Oh...I knew that >_>'
Shouldn't that be "/Sighed" ?
And don't worry. Thats why there are 700 dollar ES i7-920XM's on Ebay![]()

hope ur problems get fixed, on a side note, my laptop just arrived in australia , waiting for the local carrier to deliver it to me... i am gona run crysis make sure i820 doesnt flicker too. *fingers crossed*
-
You'll be the only person getting yours in Australia till March...
Apparently Australia has a shortage on RGB screens and no one else will get one till mid March. So your a lucky guy...I'm hoping this is Invalid..for my own sake cause i wont be waiting till March.. (Unless i get a free upgrade) -
Please use the method Joker described as it seems to surface the issue very fast. -
Partly I think they don't offer lower end in order to make the cost of buying lots of high end cards more profitable and cheaper to sell, and...
from a marketing standpoint, it would be pretty sad to see a 17" latest model Alienware with crappy frame rates (relatively speaking) with a 260m...
The decked out m17x reminds me of buying a Ferrari again... who would want one with all the same internals but looked like a Ford Taurus... kind of takes away from the purpose of the system in the first place, a mean game machine that is in your face with style and doesn't look like one of the Clevo or Falcon lunchboxes
-
The furmark stutter every couple seconds is normal.
-
Thank you, that is good news. That means my system is in perfect condition and hopefully it will stay that way.
Now we have to wait for the first 920 examination reports... -
well qx9300 has less power consumption than 820 & 920 so this typical power brick is more than enough for R1 - unlike R2
like BatBoy i havent any issues with my 280 and basic nvidia chipset - i'm not complaining about dpc but i haven't any stutter, audio cracklings and other "very bad things"
that's why i'm happy now
just my 2cents
-
I just ran furmark. I dont have any flickering.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
you have to run furmark multi gpu and prime 95 to stress your system is the only way to find out if you have the flickering -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
here is furmark multi gpu download http://www.geeks3d.com/20091218/gpu-caps-viewer-1-8-0-with-opencl-api-support-and-demos/ and prime 95 http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205
-
I ran both. No flickering. GPU temps got up to about 68 or so.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I notice that those not experiencing flickering tend to have 1066 memory. Wonder whether that is just a coincidence.
-
Hrmm.. and I was just looking at ram on newegg
-
Drake has both RAM and said it made no difference on his.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Probably just a coincidence then.
-
But Drake did have the 920 CPU, whereas the ones who have 820s and possible issues have the 1333 RAM and ones who seem to not have issues with the 820s have the 1066.
Just looking at all combinations is all. -
I just notice one thing, if I unplug the power cord while using the computer, it freezes and do not start until I completly remove the battery and start without the battery...
My flickering is by far the worst, comparing the videos I'm seeing.
Do you guys think that we might have malfunctioning batteries? -
This the ATI driver issue not related to the flickering. We have this in R1 too with ATIs.
BTW, another driver issue is the rapid flickering in Crysis and some other games. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Well, does running without the battery have any effect on the flickering? -
No, I thought it had, but it flickered.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Do you get the same driver related flickering in Furmark on the R1 with Xfire 4870s? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Well, one more variable that can be eliminated. Part of the process. -
Was running some tests last night, and decided to run 3Dmark 06. one thing noticed was the high pitch whine from the gpus, which is much louder than it was with my w90. (actually the w90 whine was coming from both the cards and the psu) anyway. moving the mouse while the bench was running altered the sound of the whine coming from the cards. unplugging the mouse reduced the whine. anyone try running the benches without an external keyboard and mouse?
-
Who ever is having the issue, uninstall your accelerometer and see if it's any better.
-
accelerometer !!! i want one of those !!!!
-
If it was removable I'd give you mine.
-
I feel like we should start a thread with people listing their config and if they have flickering or not, then it might make it easier to see which components increase the chances for flickering. The thing I don't get is why AW only took one system to be examined, wouldn't it make more sense to try to get 3-4 different configurations with the flickering to know the issue for sure? I mean who knows maybe the thing that causes flickering on the 920xm is different from what causes flickering on the 820? That would be scary bad QC/QA work from AW, but you never know.
-
drake whats this about the accelerometer? and how does it affect the problems with the 920xm systems.
-
There is a thread like that http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=458268
-
That's what I was testing before my system became FUBAR.
-
Oh, thanks had not seen it yet. +rep
-
didn't witcher or regensey help you out with testing it, was there any results from it, just curious as my credit will be going through tomorrow and i want to order one.
-
haven't been on here in a day or so and now im ready about flickering on the 820s now too. guess ill just use mine till it starts doing that.
-
any one getting far with running furmark at defualt (1920x1200@6x MSAA) resolution? (my laptop only says 6x...yours might say more)
-
wow. so it looks like at least 1 person from each processor has gotten flickering from the test so far... thats nuts.
-
I didn't follow closely enough. Ren said things got better in one post and then worse in another so I don't know what happened.
-
damn, i wish i had one so i could help u out. i think i'm just gonna order one with a 920xm and if there is a fix i'll keep it. and if there isn't but joker or you find a temp fix like the one for the m15x then i'll probably keep it.
if not i'll do what i'm thinking of doing, getting an area 51 desktop with 1 5970 and an m11x. -
Actually the 720QM flickering response in the poll appears to be a mistake. But the others sure do appear to have the problem.
-
Looks like this whole thread has gone dormant or picked up elsewhere... I too got the flickering, mentioned the upcoming BIOS fix to a service guy on the phone (Crossfire issues) and was told this coming Wednesday....
-
excellent news.
means we get ours with the new bios already -
Hey Fractal, I spoke with another engineer who quoted 3/15 for the BIOS fix....who knows!
-
Hey man. Yeah that seems to be the situation with Dell right now. A lot of contradicting information and misinformation on their part. One big f'in fiasco.
-
That extra $100 to speek to a tech support rep in North America was sounding better and better with every passing minute I spent talking to Dell reps.
-
FWIW, I am unsure why but the flickering stopped after I reloaded the drivers and turned the Crossfire off and on. Now it works with only and *occasional* slight flicker, which might just be normal for Crossfire.
-
Hey, nagshead told me once that the new bios would be out before march....
seems that we were fooled again. -
it's becoming more of a rule than an exception unfortunately. they probably have good intentions but we didn't see a lot of truth coming out of dellienware lately
-
do they ever tell the truth? sad.
-
Maybe they are testing it before putting it online? With all these driver issues going on you guys don't want another crash course BIOS version or do you? And testing takes time and is thus also a costly process!
As long as the end product is fine, take the extra week it needs!
-
I agree. If you already know it will work (by Joker's experience) why not just give the guys the time to test it out. You already know it is what you are expecting, so it's well worth it.
It would be so much different if you were waiting for a fix like the R1 fellows.
Having nothing but issues with the 4870's in my R2...
