Just a quick heads up for everyone that is thinking of doing a fresh windows install on their M17x, M15x etc.. (this probably rings true with most laptops that have an integrated card reader)
Be sure to REMOVE your SD cards from the laptops before going through the install or you will most likely get a blue screen.
I only say this as despite my years of experience, when I was going about doing another fresh install in preparation for a new hard drive(s) soon -- (hybrid drives for Daddy Day yeah-boi) I kept getting blue-screens at different points in the install process.
I did this over and over with sometimes getting into a completed install before the blue screen happened and sometimes at the very beginning of the install.
This was bugging me so much I kept installing over and over to try and find out what was wrong.. ie.. did I botch my USB bootable image? (it did get corrupted by the blue screens), was some usb peripheral causing the issues (usb hub etc..)?
Then I happened to look over and noticed that I still had my SD card sitting in the slot which I completely forgot about.... problem fixed.
Installed without a hitch (had to use my DVD as my USB stick got corrupted by the constant blue screens)
Anyways... like I said... maybe I was just being dumb due to the lack of sleep (recent move) or getting old.... either way this had me frustrated for a good 5hour stretch before I noticed my little goof.
Later
