    Is there a big difference between the heat generated and the power consumed between these cards?

    I dnt know much but I am sure that power and heat from sli 8700>8800.

    8700M GT is 29W and 8800M GTX is 35W
    I believe that in the M15x, the 8800 runs cooler

    uh... no. definitely not. the 8800M has twice as many ROPs, three times as many Stream Processors, three times as many Texture Mapping Units, and three times as many TAUs as the 8700M. it's impossible that it runs cooler.
