When I play the Sims 3 one graphics cards tends to get very hot.
The right side gets about 30 degrees and the left side gets 70 degrees.
So hot you can't touch the left side.
Both ventilators are blowing but at normal speed no "turbo", when I quit the game the temperatures falls quickly to 30 degrees both sides.
When I play other games like WoW or Aion the ventilators go to "turbo" and the cards don't produce that much heat then.
Got an m17x with dual 280 GTX cards.

    Edit: 30 C is 86 Farenheit
    70 C is 158 Farenheit

Cards not overclocked, T9800 running @ 3.46 GHz

Sorry ppl found some answers here on the forum but duno how to delete the post :(
Will keep an eye on it and keep you posted

Same thing happens when I play Aion after checking.

    so you don't need a answer ?

FYI its because the game does not support SLI which mean only 1 gpu is used...

do you have SLI enabled? (not sure if the SIMS can utilize SLI or not)

If not, then the one card will have a 3d load and heat up thus the fan kicking on...this is normal

70 is completely fine during gaming. I'm pretty sure anything below 90 is considered "safe."

And they drop to 30 idle? Geeze, mine only drop to like 35 on a cool day w/ a cooler.

An answer is always welcome. I found your thread about OSD monitoring and checking it now.
On Aion SLI is enabled the Sims will try later

Hmm thx for the comforting answer.
Got a cooler too one from Zalman but waiting for an NZXT one since the Zalmann is a bit too small and the ventilation is mostly based down from the middle. Where the NZXT one is on top where our air should be :)

Update the drivers, forced SLI in the Sims and problem solved.
2 cards are now working, fans kick in when things run hot and now I top at 74°. Wich externaly is round 60° where I mesured first.

Thanks for all the quick replies and finding a solution.

The default Nvidia driver profile for The Sims 3 forces single card operation. But you can change it to use SLI when available with nHancer and it will work just fine in SLI mode.
