Hi James, as the new skullcap design has been released for the m15x, I am sure many users are wondering if any improvements have been made to this new chassis, or the ripley's for that matter, in the areas of case quality and heat control. I know this was a major issue for the early buyers of the m15x and there was quite a lot of speculation that the backordered ripley's would be an improved design that would address this issue, as would the new skullcap. Do you have any input on this matter?

    Hi James,

I've been told UK won't have silver skull cap offered on the m15x
and then when I called again I was told they would at end of June
can you please confirm which is correct.

At this time, we do not have a projected release date for a new chassis color. For the latest on new products and announcements, we recommend signing up to our Insider Newsletter.

You may do so by going to http://www.alienware.com and clicking "Subscribe to Insider Newsletter" towards the bottom of our main page.

As with all Alienware products, quality is of the utmost importance. The Skullcap design is no exception and you can expect quality and integrity from our chassis.

What about all the current Owners with bad chassis? my screen creaks and wobbles like crazy. not what i expect when i paid $3300. If quality is the utmost importance how about offering chassis upgrades to current owners?

No offence, and not trying to ruin your parade, but how can we be sure that cracks and squeeky lids won't plague the new chassis?

does that mean the vague estimate along the lines of "Black M15x in The next fue weeks" given via the head of the product group in the ALienware network video
    http://www.alienware.com/AlienNetwork/at-the-helm.aspx
in relation to the new black color is now void/false comment..? should that past Indication/Promise no longer be used as fact that the m15x will one day get a black paint job.

i'm very annoyed/confused......... could you please elaborate.

i second the "very annoyed & confused" sentiment.

its kinda ridiculous the amount of time from release (let alone announcement of the black color) to now.

and still we have "we do not have a projected release date for a new chassis color"

i personally feel lied to from the alienware network video, it seems to be an almost deliberate attempt to get people to wait on alienware instead of buying competition by always announcing that it "will be out shortly" or "hopefully the next couple weeks" (over a month ago)

Yup, mine has currently been sent in for repairs and I've asked the technicians to fix the lid as well because I'm sure no one would use quality and my M15X in one sentence after listening to the creaks my lid makes when opening/closing (audio in my signature).

So I would like to know if in the case my computer is returned with exactly the same problem, if there is anything I can do rather than arguing with the customer support agent to give me another RMA to send it in again and again until the lid gets fixed.
I know this problem is not with 100% of the riple case M15X as a lot of the reviewers on here have received flawless machines. However, some of us that ordered earlier in the year can't use the laptop on the lap/ leg or close the lid without grabbing attention to one self because of this one problem.

@James - Thank you for coming here. While I appreciete that Alienware is finally stepping up after a few years of ****ty service, I feel as if a lot of things will not be resolved here even with you here.

Don't get me wrong, you guys coming here is great. However, because you are an employee of alienware, you cannot give out any info as to when anything is happening. Many people were very exited for the M15x (trust me I've been here for almost a year) but now that it has released all the flaws have just really placed all the new Alienware buyers into a bad spot considering the 15% restocking fee on the laptops that do not properly work.

Thanks for coming here, and I hope that you can help.

    Hello Alienware-James,

I hope you can clear up some of the Issues of the M15X. I am talking about the People who still have the Issues. Not the people who had the issues and finaly gave up on the laptop for a Refund.

i dont really care about the black color. fingerprints and a dust magent are not appealing to me. i like the silver. however i dont like that there are two colors on the laptop. its should be all one color. anyway, is it possible to switch to the skullcap from ripley for a small fee? also can turbo memory be installed at anytime in the machine?

    Best price
    http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=204559226&listingid=3199185&dcaid=17902

You can add it yourself, follow AW's instructions in this guide to install it.
http://tinyurl.com/5kg7r9 (goes to AW's support site intructo for reseating replacing turbo memory)

Then read this article to make sure you do everything correctly to enable it, it's a bit of a pain.

Welcome James, It's nice to see you guys here, i'm guessing you'll be browsing the sometimes colourful but, always good natured threads here?

At the moment the main concerns are :- m17x - When do we get it in the Uk? and m15x - ongoing problems

Any help you can offer will, i'm sure, be appreciated.

At this time, we are not discontinuing our efforts to release a black chassis for our Area-51 m15x. While we do not currently have a timeframe set for its release, please know that we are working hard to make this option available.

    Dear James

Can you let us know what is AW doing regarding poor chassis quality? Overheating issues? CPU downclocking?

I am sure you are also working hard to make having a completely functional m15x option available.

    Spadess - (m17x uk release)

I called UK alienware the other day - they told me end of June /start July - date unknown (I really dont' think they know).

I've asked Alienware-James about m15x skullcap and m17x release in UK in this thread earilier and my questions have been skipped - (he may also be a US rep) I donno why this information is withheld - it's not like it's going to be a surprise (oh wow........) or anything like that - I've gone from being certain customer to I donno what,, prolly go somewhere else that gives 2cents about my business, I'm just over all this run around crap.

My thought's exactly Zilu, I rang last week and got the same answer. I know the supplies are pretty low in the US right now for the m17X but its not right to not keep us informed. Never had such bad customer wellfare from any other company other than Alienware.

Hi James, welcome to the thread. I'm not going to harp on about all the other issues that have been said as i think the point has been well made. One thing though that hasn't been touched upon is whether or not we are likely to see an update to the grapics driver in the near future. It has (i think?) been over three months without a release. AW owners can't get them elsewhere as it permanently downclocks the GPU, therefore we are solely reliant on you guys. Any information, anything, would be very much appreciated by myself and am sure everyone else on this forum. Thanks for your time. Harry 88
