I'm getting the following error when I check the driver properties for both of my 4870's.
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
When I check GPU-z it shows "Crossfire Disabled"
I installed the latest 10.4 driver and the latest Crossfire Profile.. I'm not sure what else is wrong.

-
-
Also the Catalyst Control Center isn't available...
-
Did you OC your GPU?
-
No I didn't OC my GPU
-
Did you use the driver sweeper utility to remove the MS default drivers? because I would advice not to
-
No I didn't use driver sweeper. Now it's saying the Device could not be started (Code 10). Is my secondary GPU broke?
-
Can you describe from the very beginning what you did you do and ended up having this situation?
-
- Reinstalled Win7 Ultimate
- Installed Drivers (ATI 10.4 and latest Crossfire profile)
- Catalyst Control Center not available.
- Noticed that Crossfire wasn't enabled.
- Checked device manager. Device code 10.
Thats about it. Crossfire worked perfectly before I reinstalled Win7. I have no idea what could've went wrong. -
uninstall the 10.4 drivers, reboot and let windows install the default drivers, then install the drivers from dell, reboot, uninstall them and install the 10.4 and see if it works
-
The current drivers that are installed are the default Windows drivers. When I try to install the 10.4 drivers they don't show up on the device manager.. I'm really confused right now...
-
Go to the device manager and under the display adapters delete both of them (first the secondary and then the primary) and let windows reinstall those two devices, then try to install the drivers
-
No luck. Same default drivers installed even after I install 10.4 drivers.
-
did you try after deleting the devices to go default -> Dell -> 10.4?
-
I did that. I give up and I'm gonna reinstall Windows...
-
By reinstalling Windows you mean format and clean install right?
Try to go default Dell and then 10.4, at least that's how it works with me (I install the 10.6 though) -
Just got done doing a clean install of Windows. Then I installed the Dell supplied drivers and then went to 10.4 but still got the same error code 10 on the device manager..
Is there a reason why I don't have the Catalyst Control Manager available? -
with just the Dell drivers you get the exact same error?
-
Yup..
10+char -
I can't think of any other software related issue for this error. Next reason that comes to my mind if faulty hardware.
Does this error appear on the secondary GPU or on the primary as well? -
Faulty HW was my first thought. I think I'm gonna try to flash the secondary GPU. What do you think?
-
Well right now you have nothing to loose, it will only bring you one step closer to replacing your GPU
-
I'll let you know how it goes..
-
Do you have any idea why I cant see the "Catalyst Control" application even after I just installed it?
-
There is another thread with the exact same issue concerning CCC and 10.4 Even though they can use the have disk method to install the drivers, they stay with the older CCC version
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/483073-ati-10-4-will-not-install-no-matter-what.html -
Just booted up to ATIFlash and it's showing the secondary GPU test "Pass"
Weird... still working on it though -
On your first post you mentioned error code 19, when does this code change? After you install Dell drivers or after 10.4?
-
Yeah after I installed the Dell drivers.
-
WOOOHOOO!! I downloaded the 10.3 drivers and it works perfectly now. Crossfire enabled and I'm able to access the Catalyst Control Center.
Thank god!
Thank you for all your help! -
both error code 19 and 10 are driver related so congrats that you found a working driver
it was quite a weird case.... -
Started reading this thread and my first thought was to install the 10.3 drivers. Glad to see you tried it out with success.
-
I still don't understand how it is possible for the 10.3 to be working fine and the Dell drivers to through error...
