Hi, I recently came across an Alienware D9T notebook. The problem with this notebook is that the Optical drive is not connected to the motherboard.. like there is some sort of converter missing. The optical drive is your standard slim ATAPI optical, however identifying the interface on the motherboard for the optical has become quite the challenge.

Like the optical drive, the plug on the motherboard is female. It is smaller in width compared to the ATAPI plug on the optical, and it is white. I cannot identify it as any sort of ATAPI or SATA plug, does anyone have any ideas what it might be from my description?

The only adapters/converters I can find on the net are to convert slim ATAPI to standard 40-pin ATAPI. If anyone knows of a place that just has a bunch of different slim ATAPI converters I could look at, that would be greatly helpful as well.

For reference, I found a picture of a Clevo motherboard online and this one appears to be en exact replica of the one in my Alienware: http://www.alienized.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/image26.png

The plug I am talking about can be found on the bottom left corner of the motherboard in the picture. Unfortunately, I don't have a better picture of the plug.

    Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

The Clevo D900T uses standard PATA/IDE optical drives... like the ones I have.

heres a pic of the optical drive connector:

I am not sure what you mean by the "converter/adapter"

    Thank you for the welcome!

Basically you are saying that the little white connector is considered as standard ATA... it just needs some kind of converter? There is something missing between my optical drive and the motherboards connector for the optical drive. They are both female, do you know where I can get one of these "male-to-male" adapters?
