I just ordered my M15x, and it came in last Friday. Everything seemed to be working great so far. However, I have noticed a few things. First, sometimes when I close my lid (with the computer still on), I open it up a couple hours later to find that it is still in hibernate, and will not turn on. It is just a black, unresponsive screen. I press keys, the mouse, unplug the mouse and use the trackpad-nothing works. I have to press the power button to turn it completely off and restart it. This has happened 2-3 times. This morning, it did it again, so I pressed the restart button once again. This time, it turned into an all white screen and froze. I close the lid, nothing happened. Pressed the power button-nothing. I unplugged the power cord too. It is still frozen at the all white screen!

I don't know what to do, I paid so much money for the system and after not even a week it's doing this. I'm coming from all Macs before, so now I am feeling so upset. Has this happened to anyone before? Does anyone know what might be the problem or have any ideas to fix it?

I think you should clarify your post, it's a bit confusing. In particular:

    1) On your Windows system, what is "close the lid" supposed to do? Did you set it to hibernate, sleep, do nothing, shut down? I will assume you had it set to hibernate, but please confirm this.

    2) What exactly do you mean "it is still in hibernate"? Do you mean the computer successfully entered hibernation, and will not de-hibernate when you open the lid? Or do you mean that the computer never enters hibernation to begin with?

Sorry for these questions, but I didn't quite understand the post.

Firstly don't feel upset, it is fixable. It's actually a windows Glitch.

You haven't said what OS you're running so i'll try to generalise. my suggestion is that if you want your M15X to go into standby mode when you close the lid (something that is enabled by default in Windows XP and Vista) you need to go to Control Panel/Power options for XP or Vista. If you go to advanced settings you can turn off the Lid options. You can also set the power button in the Sart menu to shutdown, not standby.

I also suggest that unless you want to use hibernation you turn this off as well, it will save HDD space, just make sure you do regular backups in case of problems.

There are useful guides in the Care & Maintenance Guide available in my Sig..

Or read through this guide Speeding Up Vista (assuming you're runing Vista (",)

    Hope this helps?

It is better to have it do nothing when the lid is closed, you will find every time you close it to move it to a few feet it will attempt to hibernate. Hibernation takes too long, I would suggest sleep/suspending it for quicker resumes. Windows also has a glitch in sometimes when put in sleep. The sleep state save the info to the RAM so it will need to have power for this too happen, I can leave mine in sleep for a few days before the battery runs out, so it should be fine for a hour in a backpack, just when you open it for the first time it might say 95% battery left instead of 100%.
