I really like the size of the m11x and the performance but not the battery life. I'll use whichever one I get to play DDO for about 50 to 60 percent of the time the laptop is on ( the rest of the time just basic stuff-word processing, web browsing etc) and won't be close to a wall plug. Anyone know if we can get an optional battery that lasts for 3-4 hours on gaming mode?

The ul30vt-a1 looks great on the battery issue, but is larger and I'm not sure about how well it can play ddo which has held me back from pressing the buy button.

Any opinions on which I should get is appreciated.

The Asus looks good however the M11x will completely destroy it when it comes to gaming performance. Unfortunately the M11x will only last 2 hours when playing games which may be hard for you. (Then again I wager the Asus wouldn't last much longer than that while gaming)

The M11x has a non-removable battery, which is why they managed to squeeze an 8 cell in there. This obviously means no spare batteries.

Wow! With the new ul30jt now the decision is even harder... Size versus battery, assuming the graphics cards are good enuf on both laptops for DDO....

LoL but 310M is less powerful than GT335M... we cant compare that..

Now we have to compare the LCD size 11.6" vs 13" ...

And the battery life ( max 6.5 hr versus max of 12 hours).

Sooooo, exactly how inferior is a 310m to 335m?

@Ryes: This might help you... Comparing 335m to 310m is like comparing grapefruits and oranges (both citrus, but grapefruit is usually bigger in size)...
    Specs on 310m: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_310m_us.html
    Specs on 335m: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gt_335m_us.html

Also, don't forget comparing M11X's Core 2 Duo LV (Low Voltage) against UL30VT's Core i7

But what really matters is personal preference...

If you're more into gaming, I suggest taking the better graphics card and go for M11X (although I'm afraid if the CPU might bottleneck the card).
    If you're more into multi-tasking, I suggest taking the (quad-core) i7 and get UL30VT.

If you want "zee lite-shows" get the M11X (AlienFX).
If you want bigger screen, get the UL30VT (simply bigger LCD screen).

If you want better battery life, get the UL30VT...
Otherwise, get the M11X... (6.5 hours is good for a typical Alienware book)

If you want to spend less than $1000, get the M11X (full specs).
If you want to spend a bit above $1000, get the UL30VT (???).

The only game it must play, since 60 percent of the entire use and reason for the laptop's purchase, is for this, is dungeons and dragons online. The other 40 percent of use will be for multi- use. It must not lag my game in raids. I don't know if the asus can do it :(

my current laptop has this http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonhd2600/index.html and it lags

Your right its not a clarksfield chip its only a dual core i7. They have the same thing as an option for the M15x now... kind of confusing.

On the issue of battery life there probably is no laptop that will let you play games for hours on end on battery so I wouldn't worry too much 2 hours is probably about as good as it gets for gaming on battery.

Who ever said avoid anything with the alienware brand, you shouldnt even come here unless your going to say specifically why he shouldnt, dont just start flame threads. You have the right to hate but be specific please.

Both laptops are going to be great but if you want better gaming performance go with M11x.
The ASUS would be a good alternative it's bigger( good thing) but gaming would not be as good even with a i core cpu.(another good thing the ASUS has over the AW)

I tend to wonder about the CPU bottlenecking the card. If both CPU threads are used (or even one thread) I would think it may have just enough to feed the GPU. If they were mated right then it could be a really smart set up.

both are lacking in one feature or another. M11x, IF it sticks with the C2D then that'll be holding it back in the near future, on the Asus the 310m will only be solid for a few games and def not many games on high and higher res especially in the very NEAR future in terms of gaming. CPUs tend to hold out for games better than GPUs and most games now focus on GPU power...
