When i plug in my M17x the Alien head on the back of the LCD and the power button both shine red. Since red isnt a good color (normally) i was jut wanting to make sure everything is ok. I have only had the laptop for about 3 days now.

Yea i didnt see a setting for the LED that looked like it fit this situation.

Also it doesnt just flash on then back off it stays red, until i get into windows. Weird.

Well, for starters you can either hold down FN button and press f-11 to open alien fx or just right click the alienhead at your task bar where your speaker is display and then open it. The very first tab says alienhead...show's 2 modes...one for battery and one for plug.....click on the right color of your choice and that should take care of your lighting..normally when it's on battery or charging it would, change color but you can select both same colors!

Thanks for your input but im pretty sure its not related to the lighting settings. I have my light settings on BLue plugged in and green unplugged. The PLED and the alien head are red when i turn the computer on.

    Little update...

Seems to only happen on a cold boot. So if i turn the machine on from off state the LEDs are red. Then it gets into windows and changes to my settings. Then if i reboot it will stay normal until i power off the computer and unplug it and then plug it back in.

Im just trying to figure out if this is trying to tell me something is wrong. Alienware support was worthless. Guy kept telling me "Yes you can change the LED colors, here is how...." Barely spoke english and didnt seem to understand, after about 15 min i gave up, hung up on him and came to forums.

Well, with dumb comments I guess you don't want help.

Anyway, the red just means it is on ac power and you can change it, since "red is not normally a good color".

    RTFM :D

I think I know whats going on but its theory - as I haven't got your laptop in front of me.

My Alien Head is set to Green for Power and Red for Battery. When I cold-boot the Alien Head is the same color as the Alienware Logo and the TouchPad which is NOT a setting that I set. Does Red match the other colors of your setup at all?

In his defense I have the same thing, but I'm not going to worry about it. My alien turns red when I plug in the AC cord although in my Alien FX color settings I use only Blue and Orange. Battery Orange, Blue for AC. It turns to the normal color after a while, but I think it may just be some sort of default.
