    Hi!

I'm asking all alienware lovers to help promote the idea I submitted on Dell's IdeaStorm to get the White color returned as an option on the new 14, 17 and 18 AlienFX software.

    Idea Storm

Would appreciate all votes so we can be sure it gets to the right person's attention!

OR just hack an XML theme file, and input whatever values you'd like. It's pretty easy. That's how I would do true Stealth mode, with zero lights on.

Do you have any extra info on how to do this? Either way, I still Dell should add it back in.

The white didn't look that nice I think on the R4, not all the colours matched very well. I am suprised they compeltely got rid of it for the newer alienfx.

My R1 was like that too; the Alienware logo would be yellow, the keyboard green, and the speakers purple. There was no uniformity to the white colour. Still, not a reason to remove it, I think.

I have made a theme (for the 2013 models) where everything is set to white.
But to be honest it looks more light-pink than white, with the exception of the side tron lights which seem to work well with white.

If you edit the .ath you can change the colour codes yourself, and put in any colour; white is FFFFFFFF

Apparently the theme files work per model. I can't open your file for an 18 on my 14. I get this message:

The theme you are opening is not compatible with this computer.
You will not be able to apply the theme.

    I'll try editing one.

Really? In that case, can you create a basic 'all one colour' theme file for your 14 and upload it here, then I will edit it.
I also have a nice rainbow theme that even morphs through the touchpad led that I would like to adapt to the 14 (and 17) users too.

Thanks but you're right - it is pretty easy to edit.

It does look a little off-white on my 14, but I like it :)

I've attached my All White for the 14 for anyone interested.

    Great ;)
Editing the .ath gives you much more flexibility than the command centre. I am currently looking for a way to have the left and right tron lights emit different colours

Some of them are often hard-linked, just because that's a cheaper way to do it.

Unfortunately, with some of you experiencing green and blue whites, they're using cheap RGB LEDs, instead of RGBW/RGBA/RGBWA. Boo.

The left and right trons are not hard linked - they are seperate LEDs in the ath and also I've had weird bugs where if I set my whole AlienFX to red, the left tron occasionally flashes blue.
But yeah they are cheap LEDs.

I think all the LEDs on the lid are hard linked though.

I'd love it if the lighting could actually manage to pull off a true uniform white. The M11x's white was a light pink in some zones. They probably ditched it because people were complaining about it.

Still kind of is so you may be right. I still like white on the keyboard if nothing else. Old habits die hard LOL.

If you REALLY wanted to dig into it, I bet you could colour correct them to a perfect, albeit slightly darker, white using an analyzer and an RGBSH to Hex mixer.

But that's a lot of work for some non-sense. I did add in my vote to the IdeaStorm, just because it has such potential to be a super powerful tool compared to what it is now. The reason they have a limited colour palette is due to the cheap LEDs, not being able to accurately mix RGB.

what they should do, to make a superior neat product is make a touch pad led keyboard. Flast surface that can be even a extra viewing area's for certain appts - then you can have like flames and AMBX lighting and such better done...

I had the same issue setting everything to red. The left light will flash blue every once in a while, more frequently when playing games.

I never liked the white because it wasn't really white. It was like a really light shade of pink, at least from my experience. Anyway, I don't like that they've removed it. In my opinion: they should have improved it.

Yeah, they can put a decent quality LED screen under your keyboard.

If you want to pay them an extra $150 per laptop.

I know this post is late but how I did it was create a new FX tab and named it white, then went into documents where FX are stored, opened the white FX file with notepad and replaced color code FFOOOOFF with FFFFFFFF. You have to do this with each lighting zone individualy.

Nope, I tried, white still has the pink effect effect
    R4 user.
If someone has successfully made a pure (Mac white) backlight for the R4 by editing the file, please help a fellow user out

The problem is not with the code or the profile. The LED on Alienware machines are not true RGB. They simply cannot achieve perfect white. Unless you replace the LED I don't think perfect white is possible.

This is the correct answer. Not only perfect white, they don't use the 0-255 system they use 0-15, that's why you can see that the morph option doesn't look 100% fluid. Unless they have implemented a new system in the newer machines

I agree about the white being more of a pinky tinge - I'm going to have a play with the values; maybe a value of eaeaff which is a very slightly blue colour would be effective...... I'll report any findings here!

Sadly not paradigm; I did try an assortment of settings and got precisely........ nowhere!

I'm still using the vaguely pink edit, I do miss the pure white keyboard that I had on my old Dell Precision M6500 a few years back; I'm using the Alien more as a desktop these days with a large external monitor and an Apple wireless keyboard.........
