Hey everyone, I was curious if I could petition help from m15x owners (those who have the 8800M GTX)... I want to do an official looking video for the m15x with video from in-game and stats overlayed on the video.
for example, show someone playing Crysis, and over top list the average framerate, quality, etc... the problem is, that I only have the 8700M GT and the frames are obviously going to be less than the best for the m15x. I want to show it off in ALL it's glory, not just some.
Obviously pictures aren't a problem, I can take a hundred of my own machine, and taking the video capture, well, I can do most games because I don't need to actually aquire the frames that are being overlayed (just enough to actually give a smooth playback...)
I'm also open for suggestions on which games to showcase, I was obviously going to include Crysis, I was also thinking of some more common games, like CS:S and perhaps even COD4... maybe some others. Suggestions are very welcome.
Thanks everyone!

youtube would be a good place. I remember there was a forum member demonstrated 7-8 games on his m15x.
-
Just wondering, how do Crysis and other games run on your computer? I'm going to receive my m15x soon and it will have 4gb ram and 8700GT as well.
-
I can run Crysis with the Triple C's pack and the TOD addon with low-detail in DX10 with minimal (mostly unnoticable) lag. only two levels do I really notice the lag, and that's on the flight deck and the mission where you actually fly a plane-type thing.
but if everyone could stay on topic, that'd be great.
Nirvana - I was going to release it on youtube, but I was hoping for some volunteers to give me stats, like average FPS with the 8800 in various games, anyone to suggest what games should be included in the demo, etc. -
@Mystik - Don't run crysis in DX10 mode, it is a waste of performance.
In addition, is this just a video to glorify the AW M15x or are you actually going to be doing a extensive review on it? I mean doing a thing where you show all of its high points is an EXTREMELY irresponsible thing to do as a forum member considering that there are many potential buyers here and glorifying a machine without pointing out any flaws really isn't helping anyone. Sounds like a good idea though as long as you include the shortcomings. -
Thanks Stone, I stopped doing that when I figured out the right command-line switch, then added it to my Crysis shortcut on my start menu. for whatever reason, when I installed the game, it forgot to install shortcuts.
As for the high and the low, considering the increasing rarity of low points, I wasn't planning on including them... to me it seems that the majority of complaints are either about the X9000's downclocking, or minor, more astetic grievances (paint flaws, finnicky touch controls, case quality, etc)...
I just don't see enough of a case to point out for the negatives... of course, the video will be a summary of certain aspects only, beyond that, it'll be encouraging people to do research (a few frames of asking people to join/read these forums before buying etc.)... but I havn't planned to mention any specific problems... -

Mystik, drop me a PM if you want some game footage from me. I've got Assassin's Creed, Crysis, GTA:SA, The Godfather, and some older games.
-
anyone have any suggestions on which games would be best for showing off the capabilities?
-
for starters:
Crysis (just make sure it's set up so the fps doesn't drop below 25)
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
one of those snazzy racing sims (Gran Tourismo, or PGR, or whatever)
Flight Simulator X
Age of Conan
Colin McCrae's DiRT
PES or FIFA
CS:Source
CoD 4
FEAR
Unreal Tournament 3
anything else? -
-
Lineage 2
WoW
EVE -
WoW would be easy... it runs at 60fps (with vsync on) on my 8700m gt. which would be the max...
-
and Lineage 2 ???
i prefer that one anyway.... -
havn't played it myself, but I'll consider it for the list...
-
-
of course i am talking Lineage2. not sure about EVE or WoW as i do not play those...jusr figured add em since people do play em...
-
i was referring mostly to WoW, because it's never struck me as especially good-looking. can't say anything about Lineage 2, i'll leave judgement on that up to you.
-
Try TF2 also. that game is optimized so badly. it cant support dual core and its optimized to use to cpu more. my m15x chokes on that game >>. The only solution is to enable MQM2 to make it run with 2 cores but that makes the game unstable
. i get 30 - 130 fps with TF2.
-
Definitely something to consider...
GOOD SUGGESTIONS GOING ON HERE! thanks to everyone who is participating, please keep up the discussion. -
AoE 3 maybe? further titles: Mass Effect and TC: Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
-
I've got a good list going here, I'm gonna have to probably trim it for time. I don't want the video to drag on, and on, and on... I'll review what's been posted and examine the games for popularity and GPU stress, obviously the more stressful higher popularity games will get chosen... frankly, if noone plays it, and it's not very tough on the video card, noone is really gonna care. -
EDIT: Every other game runs normally and i get in the 9900 - 10000 range when i run 3dmark so i dont think theres a problem with my m15x :/ -

Thanks Ricky, definitely some ideas around to be had!
Edit: How many of these games have stresstests? I know HL2 has one, and the Lost Coast has a good one that I'm probably going to use... any others? -
CS:S has one, Crysis has both CPU and GPU, Assassin's Creed doesn't have any to my knowledge. can't say anything 'bout the others cause i don't have them
-
CS:S's stresstest is the same as HL2's (much to my disappointment)... didn't know that crysis had one... I'll have to research this particular aspect more in-depth, methinks.
