Doesn't mention in advert what screen, going to text him tomorrow as its 1 am here.

Size isn't an issue for me. looks like the m18 then if its 1080p.

didn't know what the r4 is like as it come out after i finished with dell. done a few m18 repairs and loved repairing them as the build quality is awesome, only dodgy part was the keyboard bezel :)

That's an M18x R1, assuming it is the original configuration. Is there any information on warranties? I would consider that pretty important.

That aside, I lean towards the M18x. More performance, better build quality, and more upgrade options.

Another vote for the M18x R1. Better CPU because it is not locked down, meaning you can overclock the 2760qm by up to +400Mhz - the 3630qm is not OC'able. The gpu's are also much better performing - actually, not too far off a base 765m in the new machines. The beauty of these machines (both of them) is that you can upgrade the gpu's yourself - with the 18x, you can obviously upgrade TWO cards to give you even more room for performance gain. The 18x will have a 1080p by default, from recollection. You also get the extremely robust aluminium build on the 18x over the soft touch for the 17x. More memory and larger HDD on the 18x too.....

The bag is also a nice little extra on the 18x as well. Depends on wether you prefer a slightly smaller/lighter form factor, but I'd be grabbing the 18x if the price is right...

Would you say there's a massive difference? The m18 is an 8hr round trip and £70 more than the m17 which is only 1:45. Round trip

I'd say there is a massive difference. The 18x will allow for much more powerful upgrades if you needed to. An example would be that you could, if you wanted to, drop a pair of 680m's in the 18x and be right up there with performance of a new Alienware 18 with 780m's at a fraction of the cost. Also, plastic vs. full aluminium shell on the 18x - if you've never seen an 18x in the flesh, it's built like a tank - literally.

Did you ever find out about warranty on both machines? - it would also be worth doing that, if one comes with much more, that could be a factor. I don't know if the m18x seller would meet you half way....or if you would do business like that.
