I have connected my M17x to an external monitor (Samsung) and when I go into the Display settings and/or the Nvidia control panel I cannot get it to extend the display. It does show the option to use either the laptop screen or the Samsung but not both (Under setup multiple displays). Can someone help me to get this working?

My m15x did it automatically. I am stumped.

    Thanks.

Oh and sli is the configuration.

Well it is not the TV it is an external monitor and I did try that. I played around with the fn-f7 button and for a moment it showed two monitors in the display settings menu though the second one was grayed out. This should not be this difficult!

Just to be clear, I can use both screens, just not at the same time. So the M17x clearly can use the Samsung LCD, just not in tandem with the laptops screen. Crazy huh? I have not had thsi problem with any laptop that I have ever used before. Maybe I will call....Alienware? Dell? Both!

Yes I am. Now can you help me get rid of the shakiness that happens when I scroll down the page when the website has pictures or a white background. I messed around with the mgz, it is not back to 59 but still the shakiness occurs, making my eyes hurt. Yet on Alineware's web site no shakiness at all.....

Ok I restarted the lappy and now the shakiness is gone. I still cannot get it to use the second monitor. This seems very odd as my mx15 uses this lcd (Samsung) with no problems at all, and it doesn't have sli config? Should I try using it without sli config? I will try that.

I finally figured it out. I had to disbale SLI config. Now both monitors are showing the same image (in clone mode). So I guess we learned that you cannot using an external monitor in SLI configuration :)

Yeah I will. I am just tired, need to get some sleep as my wife and I along with two friends are driving to Colorado, early Tuesday morning for a two week vacation (well sort-of as it is a family reunion, luckily her family, lol) and it is a 1440 mile drive  . I just wanna make sure I get everything setup on my M17x before we go :).

Now if I can just figure out where my friends will sit as the back seat of our vehicle (Nissan Rogue) is for the M17x, it is kinda big you know, lol...

    Thanks for your help :)

This is normal since stock drivers are, I believe, 179.85 and as far as I can remember dual screen with SLI on was introduced in the 180 drivers series.
Updating your drivers should allow you to use dual screen with SLI enabled.

Yea Dual screen and SLI has always been buggy for me. I havent ever had it work properly...

When I run multiple monitors on my desktop I Turn off SLI and then enable it when needed.. The only bad thing is, a reboot is sometimes required to do it properly.
