Well finally finished all the benchmarking so here we go.
Initial impressions:
Very good build quality. This is probably not a new chasis but looks like they might have actually payed attention when putting it together. As i mentioned before there are no crack/blemishes anywhere on the laptop. There is no wobble, the hinges seem very stiff, but not too stiff that it is hard to open. The inital creaking that I had mentioned has completely disappeared now and the touch controls work perfectly.
My pet-peves:
-The power button is way to sensitive.
-Volume controls don't work after comming out of sleep mode.
Comparison:
I decided to compare the m15x with my old laptop my I9300 (17.1in). To my surprise the size are actually pretty similar as well as the thickness.

One thing that i did like was the gloss plastic. I know some don't like but the reason i like it is because on my old laptop the palm rest was a bushed aluminum finish and after a very short while it started to fade. With the gloss on the palm rest i do not see it fading anytime soon.

Benchmarking:
CPU:
I stopped at 48 min because the temp had not risen in the last 22-24 min, so i figured that was pretty much all it was going to do.

GPU:
Well no screenshot here but that is because Age of Conan decided to be really annoying. I had everything running in the background and i would alt tab occasionally to check the temp and rivatuner to make sure things we going fine, during my 2 hr playing. Everything was fine no fluctuations in the frequencies on Rivatuner and the temp on HWMonitor was approx 85C. I would have taken a screen of it but like i said AoC decided to act up and crash on me, locking up my pc forcing me to reboot![]()
3dmark06:
And here is what i got when i ran the test (8902).

Conclusion:
I love this thing![]()
PS. Sorry for a few of the pics being a bit blurry my digi cam is crap![]()

Looks very nice, can't wait to get mine. I'll have to go to my brothers and use his dSLR to take a few pics of it when I get it.
-
Good review but the "decided to be really gay" comment was really unprofessional and completely inappropriate.
-
Good review! I got a kick out of the 9300 comparisons. I've got some fond memories of my old 9300 which I put through a literal beating a couple years ago but it never broke down on me. Anyway, glad to hear that you're enjoying the m15x and hope it lasts you a long time.

Good Lord, do we have to be so politically correct in here? lol
-
Thanks. I appreciate that
-
I don't want to offend anyone, so i changed it.

Great review. Thank you for testing!
-
Great review. Have fun with your new M15X.
-
that is good to hear, can't wait to get mine now!
-
too funny JK, lol

Good one Syth. Happy to see yours is great. Also, you don't seem to have the light bleeding through the lateral plastic of the lid (picture with the lid closed). Maybe they did take their time.
Just one more thing... That 3Dmark06 result is quite low. Are you running it at the standard resolution? This 1200x800 something? Or something similar? -
Cant wait to get mine now
-
great review +rep.
its finally nice to see another m15x lover in here. -
Thanks for the review, it was both very informative and made me feel a bit better about waiting for mine!
-
Syth, whenever you get a chance... Run an FPS, preferably Crysis. And let us know what speeds does it goes up to. That would really be helpful.
Regarding the CPU... one day you will have time, can you just leave it for a couple of hours. I had a very slow increase over time but it did reach 92C after a couple of hours.
Congrats again. -
@milcs - Will do. I used the 3dMark06 basic one it wouldn't let me change anything. IT was at 1280x1025 res. I'll see if i can find the professional version somewhere on rapidshare or megaupload.
-
When I asked you to check the speeds of Crysis, I actually meant temps.
And don't forget. Always monitor your laptop to avoid any complications. That's a gold rule.
Have fun with it and hope no problem will ever come your way. -
basically, treat it like a woman
-
Ya it's going to be my little baby for a long while
Btw just ran 3dmark06 again and i got 9111 this time. I'm still using the stop drivers, so i'm not sure if that will make a difference. -
It's a bit low but well... it's okay. I had around 9900 (and after a while 9700). Not a big difference though.
Stock drivers will give you the best results (performance wise), but new drivers from laptopvideo (or whatever) will downclock your GPU when not in use, allowing it to work cooler. This comes at the expense of a small slowdown in performance. Not much though...
Search around and you will find a topic regarding drivers for the M15x 8800GTX.
Now... give me those temps while playing crysis! -
Hehe well i'm at work right now, night shift
I might go pick up the game on my way home in the morning. -
Try to have fun at work, your laptop will be waiting when you get home. And once again, congrats.
-
can we test it using the demo of crysis? dont feel like owning that game.
-
Congrats syth, i'm really happy for you
Have fun with your new toy.
However the GPU temps at 85c? Isnt that about 5c off overheating? Well anyway have fun -
85 is OK. But, I doubt a game like AoC will push the GPU to its maximum.
Crysis on the other hand, will.
I don't know about the demo. You need to play for a couple of hours on a scenario like the beach (outdoor, lots of enemies around, explosions, etc etc) to understand what temps your GPU can be pushed to. -
you could always get it by other means. <_<
while i neither explicitly advocate nor name those means, that possibility should be noted. especially since you wouldn't even have to play online, just the single-player campaign. -

Are we going off topic now?
Here's the longer review
