Well, it's been a while since i posted here but, i wanted to tel you about a good experience I had last month.
My M17X (Original version) is great, works well, doesn't get hot and plays everything on full (except Crysis, that's medium at 1920x1200), anyway I tried to watch Transformers on blu-ray and couldn't.
My first thought was that it was the video drives as they are known to cause problems if not completed etc. I changed them back to stock and found that not only could i not play the film but, I was being asked to insert disc... odd!
I rang Alienware CS and spoke to Tom. He ran through a number of simple tests and then tried a firmware upgrade via remote. Nothing worked and in the end it was agreed that they would send me out a new drive.
I recieved it in 3 days and sent the old one back. simple as that.
I would like to thank Tom for his much appreciated help in the matter and i have also upgraded to the latest whql drivers from Nvidia and am pleased to say that they perform really well and i can watch blu-ray films.

nice to hear you had yet another positive experience.
in related news, any hinge cracking visible on the mug yet? -
Hey Oodle-Bear,
That's great to hear. Speaking for myself, I've had nothig but excellent experiences with Alienware CS.
I think people sometimes get the wrong impression when they visit this forum.
Although there are a few folks who write here about a positive CS experience, most don't.
On the other hand, people who feel less than satisfied with A.W. CS, and are aware of this forum, usually do post their experience here.
Anyway, glad to hear they efficiently solved your problem! -
I am happy to hear of a happy Alienware users
Normaly you only "hear" the screams of the disappointed ones^^
Hm ... you have problems running Crysis maxed out?

Alienware Mug, The Story So Far -
i read that when i joined.... but i had always wondered about the F.P.S
if the new drivers helped -
I am drinking from mine as i read this. Still a strong performing mug, but it's showing its age. I'm waiting for the new quad-core mugs to come out, with SLI (Straw-Link Interface).

Well, I've been busy conducting some extensive testing, involving cooling/heating cycles and I've also experimented with alcohol... I thought it might be a good performance tweak.
Well, the cooling worked great I had to use a serious approach though, it mainly involved a new medium called "Wet Ice", similar to dry ice but, better gives better PTR (Performance to Weight Ratio)... I found that a 6/1 ratio to coolant is the way to.
For heating I performed the testing with a great deal of self-sacrifice. I had to actually sample the testing medium, to check for temperature variations and hot spots... Not an easy task i can assure you!
I'm very pleased to say that both heating and cooling performance levels are still 100% even after repeated formating cycles... for efficiency of course (",) using the D15hW4sh3r interface.
Now, I know it's a new concept but, UMI+AC I have found it...
UMI (User Mug Interfacing) + AC (Alcohol Intake), it's the way to go. It provides an excellent user experience with minimal expenditure and energy consumption but, maximum 'chilling out' so in the hot weather we've been having in the UK, the perfect result.
I have had a slight problem though, I found that after very extensive testing (about 4 or 5 cycles), just to make sure the results were accurate of course!
(See the self sacrifice here guys...?) I experienced MBAI... shock horror!!!
(Mug Balance Angle Interference)
This resulted in some coolant being spilt and therefore the coolant medium wasted... this is not so bad because the solution was to add more alcohol and I after adding the ultimate accessory for this particular problem, found no more BMAI problems occurred.
The solution, simple really, it has the code name Old No7... it's a distillate from a region of the USA called 10aC i believe. It seems to have potential for the best cooling (chilling out) medium i have tested. It is kept in a pre-designed container in close proximity to the Mug and when neccessary, adds a little more coolant to keep levels at there peak. I find it works very well (",)
I will continue to carry out further testing, and of course will keep you all informed of my progress and results.
Any test you'd like reviewing/carrying out, please let me know.
OB
P.S. I have decided to give my Old No7 destillate the nickname of "Jack"...

thanks for your service to mankind and mug every where

TFF...... +1 for you OB....
(by the way...i have forwarded your findings to the mothership and they have granted an extension to your stay on this planet)

Glad to hear the old M17x is still working great for you Oodle!
Mine's still going strong though my game of choice lately is Fallout 3 -

To be honest (he say's touching wood), mine machine's a great bit of kit. Doesn't get hot, go wrong or anything like that. Just keeps on ticking lol

My mug is still kicking it, alongside my laptop.
I've enjoyed my laptop so much I decided to buy a desktop from AW as well, which I'm a little worried as I've never bought a pre-made machine before lol. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I've heard good reports about there desktops. Had i had enough space i'd have bought a desktop, fully loaded etc. but, the "little" M17X is basically a desktop Pc in a small case really...
So how are you liking F3 then, i think that although the graphics are mostly brown/grey they are very good?

Can't wait to see the specs on the M17X then.

well, it is... first letter stands for "mobile", uppercase for montevina systems, lowercase for santa rosa. the two digits afterwards denote the screen diameter, and the final letter (if it's there) denotes an nvidia-based system. piece of cake.
-
i always thought the X stood for a AW exlusive A.K.A ALX systems
-
Can I just call mine "The better one" ???

If you consider out model was the first, all others are created in it's image, it sort of makes our models "The Daddy"... doesn't it
Yup F3 is a cool game, i'm looking forward to F4 if they make one, the graphics should be even better.

m17x, m15x, M17x -> Nvidia
-
.
Yeah, I remember the Mug episode. Fun times. -
Well also the m17x was called the Area-51 m17x, and the M17x is called the M17x Allpowerful, so there's that distinction as well.
-
Can't wait either. -
these F3 addons are crazy... Anchorage, The Pitt, and now New Vegas?
-
Anchorage, Pitt, Broken Steel are the current ones and guess what, two new addons are scheduled for later release. Named mothership zeta and point lookout
.
New Vegas is a whole new game btw. -

Well, i have a shiny new blu-ray/DVD/CD drive and using the latest Nvidia drivers, am enjoying watching Transformers on blu-ray in glorious technicolour lol I love it when Ratchet shoots himself in the head "Oh S**t"...
Fallout 3 is awsome too though, maxed out, surround sound... bliss (",)
How's things with you?
