Has anyone else had this problem. I guess it's not serious but recently when I started my laptop I heard the fan make a noise like click click click I guess as it was starting up, sounded like I was hitting something inside. Thats not an issue anymore however, it has gone away. My big irritation is this loud humming noise the computer makes. I was thinking it could be just dust in the fans? Any suggestions? Also anyone else notice that the battery charger like the box in the middle of the laptop and the wall when the laptop is off or in sleep mode also makes a humming noise? I'm going crazy over here!![]()

what exactly do you mean by the noise? when fans turn on you should only hear the air blowing/fans . fans usaully only come on when they reach a certain temperture not right away. -
It happens as soon as I get to the login screen for vista. It's inconsistent and can have a longer hum or short humms. Almost like clicks. Sorry the problem is so vague =\.

Its probably just hard drive activity (Remember, Vista indexing is on all the time).
DVR cable boxes (And virtually all computers) make nmoises like that as part of normal operation. -

I would suggest cleaning out your laptop anyway - high performance machines use a lot of air and accumulate dust more quickly than regular laptops. Take a look at the cooling guide.

I'm getting this noise now too

there was a batch of core2duo's that did this higher pitch sort of whine.
I can hear it on my work xps1710.
no real fix for it that i know of. -
I had this problem on my dell m1210, the solution that I was given for it was to basically have the cpu never idle. So leaving bluetooth on at all times or using a program to keep the cpu from idling was what I had to do.
