Since i really dont wanna deal with sending in this hinge to AW to fix it, is there anyway i can i can tighten the screws on the lid to fix it? I heard about this fix somewhere on hear......anyway, a few ither questions....
How long did it take AW to fix your hinge and ship it back?
Do you still have hinge issues after the repair?
Do you have any success holding it togethor with tape?
-
Just send it in before it gets worse...letting it get too bad may void your warranty.
Ask for a video card or CPU upgrade for your troubles too -
Tape? you are kidding right? For the screen fix, BTW, remove the rubber buttons all around your screen and tighten the screws put the gums back and your done.
P.S. Don't over tighten and brake something... -
ARG! it got worse when i opened it this afternoon and the screw fell out! Any one familiar with the turn around time? I live in florida so i could probably drive it down to miami lol

For a hinge crack, alienware only spent about a day in order to fix my system. After I got the comp back, the lid seemed a little more stable. I believe that the problem was not only due to a weak design, but that it was compounded because the lid screws were not tightened properly during the original production of the systems. AW did charge $50 for the repair, which I had to dispute in order to get my money back.

I wonder how many people now have been charged for an OBVIOUS design or mfg defect?

Do you mean, the hinge broke? Can you post some pictures.
This says two things:
You are lucky 18.
New laptops are still experiencing this same problem. -
Basically, the problem is that the lid is made of a "sturdy plastic" while the bracket that connects to the lid is made of metal. After opening my notebook only a few times, the metal split the two sides of the lid apart and made opening and closing the lid impossible.

Hey guys I just joined the site because my hinges have broken as well. When I called alienware they said it was my fault, not covered by warranty and have never heard of this problem again. they then told me it would cost of 319 dollars to repair it not including the part. After this bunch of nonsense I sent a complaint to the FTC Consumers Protection. If you have had this problem please send me an e-mail of pictures and a short description so we can hopefully get this resolved without paying for an obvious defect they refuse to cover! Thanks guys

Call Roswell (1-866-ROSWELL). Explain the situation to them. You will get good results. Mine came back a few days ago in perfect shape. No charge. Just had to wait about a month for the repairs. Ask for Kevin.
-
Roswell crew is on duty from Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm Est.
After that you'll get standard AW support. -
its amazing that they seem to NOT have a helpdesk database with the HISTORY of this problem. NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE!!!! LOL. seems like they just want to fleece the end-user.
-
That's really shocking. But there have been some other users who were also charged for repairing a problems that is all AW's fault. It's criminal that they even suggest it is your fault and it's because of this that I wish that AW would just stand up to trial. I deeply believe that the m15x became a corporate crime (or sort of...) and AW stands happy, carrying on with selling defective laptops and, worst, making their costumers pay for their mistakes.
Oh well... you've got to love the world we live in.
I would recommend you using the collection of reports on the "Why you shouldn't buy the M15x" thread to make your point with AW. And don't accept any liability for the damage to the hinge. It's completely not your fault... Unless the lid of the m15x is not meant to be open and closed.
Good luck. -
Hmm, I'd like to interject a bit on PewerTA's claim.
As per with Alienware-Armando, the hinge repair should be covered under the warranty.
-
i have a freind who called about the same issue yesterday.. he was also given the run around and they tried telling him it probably was his fault. they asked him repeatedly if he dropped it. he insisted no. they said wellllll send it in and we will inspect it and see if its under warranty.. i listend to the conversation because he had them on speaker phone. he was also told if it required him to pay for it he would have a "good size" bill (the words the guy used), ill see if he remember who he spoke to but imo. in the end he sounded like it would be covered but man did he get the run around on the phone about it...
-
costing too much to fix with the sheer amount of problems so far. SOO.. DENY DENY DENY. standard procedure at most businesses and insurance companies!
-
All Im quoting is what I was told by the man who claimed to be supervisor of technical support Eddie Ramos.
-
So unfortunately I have the M9700 and it isnt covered although it is the same problem that other users are experiencing.
