Not trying to flame Alienware, but I think people who are buying the Alienware m15x for a 15" gaming notebook, should know that the size is actually bigger than the average 17" notebook (counting width and height). Dell's XPS M1530 is 14.1" wide, while the Alienware m15x is 16.1" wide. Dell's 17" M1720 is actually only 15.5" wide, so yeah, the m15x is bigger than a 17" notebook, so you're basically getting a 15.4" screen in a bigger notebook than you'll find 17" screen in. EDIT: I actually got that info from a bad source, sorry guys, it's a decent size for a 15" notebook.

yeah i could kinda tell. the screen actually feels way bigger than 15.4 its because of how big the laptop panel is. that pretty sneaky of AW :)

Just putting it out there, a lot of people are buying the m15x because they think it'll be smaller than the 17" notebooks with an 8800M GTX.

Shima, Can you measure yours? The AW site says the width is 14.55”. Not sure where the OP got a measurement of 16.1" from.

If it *is* 16 inches wide, I'm cancelling it as that would be a huge difference from what they advertise.

I've definitely heard 16.1" in a critic review. I might be wrong about the size, though (I probably am).

I'm confused with your post. M1530 14.1" wide, M1720 15.5" wide is ok they are the dell.com specs. But as far as the alienware.com specs go:
    Height: 1.30”
    Width: 14.55”
    Depth: 10.73”
    Weight: 7 lbs

I only see a 14.55 which goes in between the two not a 16.1". So is AW website wrong or did you misstype it? Worth a correction imo, we're getting what we want something somewhat better than a 15" but portable not like a 17".

I got that measurement from a critic review, so either the critic mistyped it or Alienware put false measurements (I think it was a typo from the critic, but the Alienware m15x definitely looks like there's enough room to house a 17" panel, so I'm not too sure).

I took measurements right now. 14.5" x 10.6" ish x 1.6-1.7" tall (incl rubber stands).

    By comparison, the HP Pavilion 17" is 15.16 (L) x 11.65 (W) x 1.57
    Dell 1720 is 15.5" x 11.5" x 1.7"

If you do the math you can fit a 17" in any 15" laptop in theory since the real diagonal of the whole thing is always around 17.5" for the 15" screen computers.

    Yes as noted the m15x is not in a 17" case . . .

Closing this thread because it's ridiculous.
