    Hey

I was wondering how can you tell if ur M17X screen is a WUXGA LED or a WUXGA DUAL CCFL, without opening the laptop, or comparing it to another M17X with a different screen backlit.

P.S: I know the led is brighter n consume less energy, but honestly I am not sure what Dell put in my machine anymore. In their invoices and quotes once I read it LED once CCFL :S

    So anyone can help ?
    thanks

Check the hardware id for the RGB LED, it's SEC5443. It's very obvious anyway, the RGB LED has colors that pop out at you thanks to the increased gamut and brightness.

well my panel is also SEC5443 - but it's not rgb panel :D so that's not a point. led could be identified by lightning corners on absolutely black picture or background

in my opinion the panel is the same, since both are wuxga 1200p, but what defers is the backlighting.. Am not sure about it though.. Some says that with led the screen is thinner which contradicts what I just said..
Sooo.. Anyone ?? :) anyway to be positive ?

Open up HWInfo and it will identify the display as K1NFP. That's the model for the RGB LED. Take a look:

I read it somewhere that there is some quality issues with those k1nfp..
and all shippment with such displays will be delayed.. Maybe that's why they had big confusion referring to the actual backlit in my order..
btw where is this picture taken from ?

There's no quality issue as far as function from what I've seen. Probably more rumor mongering as usual. The picture is from my old display that I had replaced due to a dead pixel (unless you consider that a quality issue).

    ahahaha I liked that...
but no really I heard there was huge delays on all items ordered with led after the 3rd of February.. Not sure why, but when I saw my invoice with ccfl instead I got really upset..
so I think all I can do now is wait n check what they v given me

They are completely different, CCFL uses the bulbs to light up the LCD display.

RGB LED has a tri color LEDs that are used to form the graphic image you see on the screen.

I guess the only way to tell for sure is to pop the front bezel off and check.

RGB LED screens do not use an inverter, and have two connectors on the back side which come from the GPU directly.

Also search this forum, some one posted pictures of the RGB LED GPU cable, it is also different from the standard LCD display

Usually, CCFL display has some form or another of light leakage along the bottom or side of the screen when the screen is showing dark display. RGB display is more uniformly lit through out.
    YMMV.

How? Just look at it :D

If you somehow feel life is better you are definitely looking at a RGB LED.

What you want is HWiNFO32. That's the windows version (works on both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows). The regular HWiNFO is for DOS (you could run that one with a DOS boot disc, for example).
