How about undervolting the m15x? Has anyone tried it with the m15x? Seems like a great way to drop the temps a few C's for free? Are there any potential issues while running under full load?
-
Yeah I try that before by plugging in a 65W Targus universal adapter. M15X needs 120W. Problem is the screen will flicker every 2 sec from dim to bright continuously. Performance becomes unstable. Its like fast for 2 sec and slow for another 2sec. Feel very weird.

I guess he doesn't mean plugging it in a 65W power adapter like you do. He means undervolting the processor. Most likely you can do that. I don't know about the Core 2 extreme, but my old T5600 runs at 1.375v stock, and I have virtually no problem running it at 1.025v under full load (tested with Orthos and the likes). Some people reported 1.000v, but it BSOD on me once.

I've taken the plunge and are currently testing stability after having undervolted the cpu from 1.1350V to 1.0000V. I've passed 2 hours of testing with Orthos and everything is still stable. My cpu temps have not gone over 58C during this testing. I'm pretty impressed. I wish we could do this for the gpu as well. Might have shaved off quite a bit of temp there as well.

i have done it myself and it helps what r u using to undervolting?

I'm using RMclock, but I wish it was lighter on the resources. Are there any other programs that you can use?
Btw. I tried going below 1.0000V but that gave me a bsod so it looks like 1.0000V is the sweet spot for my particular cpu. How low did you manage to get yours tacomenace21? -
well I'm not sure rmclock is reading my correctly but I set mine to 1.0625 because it was the only one that would not overheat my cpu and also it was the only one that would complete over an hour stress test. All the lower ones couldn't handle it.

12x1.0000V = 60 Celsius. After 15 min Orthos. (From 73 degrees!)
Edit: Down to 58 degrees. BUT... The error in the program (RMClock) STILL remains. BUT the program still runs as long as I don't click the "Close" button". This is ing crazy. There's nothing wrong with the CPU nor the downvolting... argh. This is driving me crazy.

A-HA! Finally fking finally!
I downgraded to BIOS x32 - now everything works OK!
Runs Orthos @ 57 degrees C. Nice!Attached Files:

umm..... NBR's big Undervolting thread here:
The "Undervolting" Guide
and also check out the NBR Cooling Central. -
Alright, working fine!
Although....
When @ idle, the core clock is 50% of max, before undervolting it went down to 30% of max... and also there is always CPU load between 10-20%.
The fans doesn't bother, and neither do I.. but I find it... confusing.
Any ideas?
How about undervolting the m15x?
