    Hi guys!

Dont know that have anyone created a similar threat? I tried to find with some keywords but didnt see anything. Im, therefore, going to ask you :D

In Western countries, BrandNew laptops and Refurbished Laptops are separated clearly by Sellers, but in my country (Vietnam), it's quite difficult to do that because of the Dishonest sellers. However, Dell products always have Service tag on them, it makes me more confident for buying dell items, especially laptop. Hence, I'd like to know which are signals of a refurbished one if I check its service tag.

    ~ Thanks in advance ~

the Service tag will tell you the date of manufacture and orignal config and the warranty status.

A new store bought unit should not show up on dells site until it is registered for warranty. or if made by Dell and shipped will not show up until after Dell ships the new unit.

if you see the laptop was made many months ago then I might suspect it is a refurbed or used unit

Thanks for quick reply :D, but there a lot of re-seller in Vietnam, they buy these laptops as customers and when such units in real-customers hands, they usually ran out of few months of warranty. In this case, if the resellers are dishonest, they will redesign boxs and sell these units with brandnew price, people who have poor technology knowledge will be trapped :(

In addition, I know some ways to recognize the Refurbished item, such as checking the list of devices if there are any words "module" which begins the sentence (especially in Hardware part) > it's refurbished, is it right ?

From what ive been told, a refurb carries a big green sticker on the bottom....now if some unscrupulous reseller has removed it, thats a different scenario.....

I can confirm what steviejones133 says. My factory refurbished unit has a big green sticker on the bottom that says: "REFURBISHED" with a bunch of details on it. Good luck!

not sure what you can do really. all you can do is check the service tag online, and get the service tag from the bios, not the little sticker on the bottom of the laptop. since your afraid of dishonest sellers that pretty much all you can do since all of the stickers can be peeled off the unit. i'm vietnamese too so i know what your talking about. also check out youtube videos of unboxing, so you will see what a real alienbox looks like and all the stuff it comes with.

Although no one has said there are usually tiny signs that a laptop has been used before just take a macro view of all the detail and worn signs or small scratches. Also the box it comes in should be good evidence.
