Just wondering if a fresh install of W7 is really necessary, or does the system
come pretty clean? Just uninstall the stuff you don't want..?

Please speak from experience with the R2 only. Thanks!

If Dell or Alienware added bloatware it easy to go into control panel and remove the bloatware. I not sure I think there only the 30 day antivirus program but other would have to give this info.

I do a clean install by nature but it was pretty bare when I got it. alienfx starts bothering you immediately to register your face and the OSD stuff just annoys me. I wanted to eradicate the dell video drivers so I wiped it. I'd always recommended a clean install.

does the M17x-R2 come with recovery discs or a recovery partition? just wondering as i will more than likely do a clean install when i change out the hard drive to my 160gb intel ssd and change the 250gb drive to a 500gb drive i already have.

You always have a backup image in a small partition of your hard disk.

Put an extra of $49 you will get an AlienRespawn DVD.

It comes with a Windows restore dvd and an alienware software dvd. It does not include Alienware wallpaper/icons so you would have to download those from somewhere else or back them up ahead of time.
