What is your primary use if the laptop? If it is gaming I would have held out for a unit with the 1200p screen and sli and upgraded the warranty and headset/mouse later....Just my opinion.

The screen is a very wrong choice, 1200P is a must and an RGB LED is a huge bonus. The GPU could be upgraded but still, too shy.

For that price, it's a good deal, as far as the screen, you'll be ok, heck, hook it up to a monitor, problem solved. Remember he paided $1,138.15 for the laptop it self, free shipping, and less taxs then we all pay in a week :)

Lol, buy a netbook and hook it to a monitor. What's the point of going 17" if you can't use its advantages.

He is right....asus g73 or clevo would be a MUCH better choice for the money! Also, the price isn't great at all....check ebay and look at all the refurbished systems on there and you can use bing and save another 8%. Some have the better screen and sli. I bet if you do some more research you can do much better.

^^^ agreed, screen is prob the most important part of a laptop, you have to stare at it everyday.

A g73 has the same screen 1400 + 900, and so does many 17" laptops at the $1,200.00 price range, your missing the point, at that price its not bad. There are many treads on gaming with 1400 + 900 screen res. find me at $1,200.00 17" 1200p laptop if you can. As you can see I have both types, no difference in most games.

Nope, it has the FHD LED.
Even my 15" ThinkPad has 1600rez.

I have had the 1440 screen on my first M17x.

    Biggest. Mistake. Ever.

The resolution just made the screen worse. Both CCFL screens (1440 and 1920) are not very good but the 1440 seemed to exaggerate all of it's flaws.

Again this all IMO of course. You might like it, who knows.

I don't feel too bad for you because if it does suck you can always send it back ;)

Once stock becomes plentiful and resellers begin selling the X series G73's for $1299 it will be pretty close to his price range.

first of all there are other options in his price range....Here is a great one!

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ASUS-G73JH-A2-1...iewItemQQptZLaptops_Nov05?hash=item2a052c3bfa

asus g73 with 8gb memory and ati 5870 dx 11 card, 17.3" Full HD (1920x1080) LED Display!

1595 - 8% bing = $1467 and comes with backpack and mouse! Add 75 for the headset and he is under his budget and it comes with a 2yr warranty and accidental damage protection!

    He spent 1578 for his!

p.s. you should fix your sig if you are going to give advice....intel does not make an i7 780qm and the m17xr2 comes with 4870's...its make you more credible. Just FYI...

Wow at what i have started... Is screen res that big of an issue? This is my first laptop, and the only laptop i have ever used is my wifes and its an inspiron 1425 and the screen looks fine to me.. Btw are the dual 260m's not sli(saw sum1 mentioning waiting for sli).. O yeah as far as picking a different brand and whatnot i was using my dell preferred account to make the purchase so other laptops were not a choice

    Yes, they are SLI.

And just decide for yourself if the screen res is ok, for you.

    Enjoy your new system ;)
