Hello my computer is an alienware area 51 m15x and i am trying to figure out the clock generator number on the chipset in the mother board of the laptop. If anyone of u have the same specs as me and have open up your alienware laptop or if have not please do and tell me the number u see on the chipset because i am inexperienced at opening laptops and i just bought my laptop and i do not want to break it. i need the chipset number to overclock my laptop. dont worry i have excelent cooling fans.
these are my specs if u have the same specs and chipset please check to c the chipset number(which is the clock generator by the way) and please tell me what it is.
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 DUO CPU T9300 @ 2.5GHz
2GB ram ddr2
32 bit vista operating system
chipset GM965
thanks in advance.

i highly doubt others are going to just open up thier unit to satisfy your stand alone request.
there may be some that will that have chaged to CPU or have done other things to thwart the warranty, but i have reservations about others.
all you have to do is unscrew the bottom plate and there you go....if you desire to OC, then learn how to remove the bottom plate... -
-
i was thinking the same...you just took more time to quote....
-
I wouldn't waste your time in OC ing with that cpu.

For warranty purposes, we will recommend not to overclock your system as this will void it if any damage is done during and after the process.
Thank you. -
-
how would i be able to do this without breaking it, if u cold point me to a tutorial maybe i could open it myself instead of asking other people. Link wouuld be greatly appreciated ryujin

thanks anyway guys ill just post up another question in the forum asking how i can dissaseble my lapotp to find the info thanks for ur help tho
-
if your so inclined to OC a unit, you would or should know more about how to get inside...
you said you had a desktop that you OC'ed....do you know how to get in that one? -
well, seeing how many have failed at this, it can't be that easy. the bottom plate doesn't cover the entire mobo, so theoretically, the PLL chip could be somewhere unaccessible - knowing AW and their, umm, "distaste" for OCing the m15x, that's pretty probable.
beyond that, even if the chip is accessible, you first have to find the chip - motherboards tend to have a lot of them all over the place -
NEW, IMPROVED, Already suggested, but seemingly ignored advice now with link!!!
Sorry for the sardonic tone, but you may want to really read our responses carefully for answers before dismissing your whole thread. -
I have an alienware m15x laptop computer and i would like to know on which side of the motherboard is the ic chip with the clock generator # on it.
A. the keyboard side
B. the bottom side.
And if it is a is their like a guide that tells me how to dissasemble that part of the laptop. Links would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
Why don't you go ahead and disassemble the whole think and then come back and tell us... I don't think we can overclock the CPU can we?
-
I'm pretty sure AW's got that locked. Even if you knew the clock generator, I don't think you could set new clocks.
-
you can my m17 you can OC with the AW bios
although it orginally was a OCZ Whitebook
the asus's was under the GPU heat sink -
yoyoyo man, just turn that laptop into parts and do it yourself. i am sure after many days and many parts you will find it, when you put it back together dont have any extra screws around.
-
well i just want to have a look see at the motherboard of my laptop and my warranty is already done. So any help would be appreciated thanks.
-
first, remove the service cover from the bottom of the laptop. then, remove the rubber feet, and unscrew the screws under those. remove all other external screws. then, gently start pulling your lappy apart. on a side note, watch out for the alien staring at you from atop the optical drive cage.
-
What exactly are you wanting to fix or take out?
-
i want to see the ic unit and look at the clock generaotr #
-
on the bottom just remove all the screw its pretty much it (no sarcasim here)
-
Is anybody who has this same ic chip know the clock generator # for it. And is anybody willing to open their computers to answer my question. Iknow this sounds very farfetched and nobody might be willing to do this but if u can thank you.
And if u think i am asking to much please do not post anything bad i just really need this information
my motherboard/pc is an alienware m15x -
-
its a m15x and this is his 4 thread about it
-
im sorry about the posts i ust want to have a lot of information about it before doing anything serious to my laptop
-
-
Your four threads have been merged...keep related questions in only one thread.
-
thank you Kdawgca
-
why should we break our warranty and possibly an investment for your satisfaction?
its not that your not asking a question...its the fact your asking others to do your dirty work. no go. -
Should we be expecting a fifth thread with the admission, "So I don't really have an m15x, but..."
-
lol....i was half expecting that
-
-
he never said they did.
-
if he does open it up just put on here some super close up pics
should get it done quick that way
-
ok ivee finally opened up my m15x but i can not find the gm965 chipset or the clock generator # here is a pick could u guys tell me were on this pick is the clock generator #. here is the link to the pic
http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/106/images/Image_14.jpg

Whether or not he has a camera, or whatever the case may be. I almost peed my pants laughing when I saw that the "pic of the inside of my case" was a techspot review photo.

If you are trying to find the PLL or clock generator for the m15x to run the SETFSB program, it has been discussed many time before like this one:

If you are looking for it for other purposes then good luck !!! I hope this helps. God Bless
