On Dell after customising I get a 8% EPP discount but there's no EPP number. Read on another thread you need this number to haggle on the EPP phone line.

When they say haggling with the EPP number, do they mean start haggling from the discounted price?

    Ex) Retail - 8% = EPP Number.

Or are you talking about some sort of code?

I get the impression you need the EPP number like a code to haggle on the phone line.

I don't think you need a code. I just enter my student email address and it GIVES ME the epp discount. I think you friend was just saying, use the discounted number to start the negotiation so that you can get a better deal.

Just tried asking for a discount through an online sales rep. He refused to give me any discounts lol. I asked if he offered any Hot Summer Deals and he just said a computer advisor will call me on Monday. :(

Yea, from what I've read you have to call them up and give them a hard time on the phone to get anything good.

Should I take the I really want the laptop but it's out of my budget approach or the I already have plenty of laptops so it's your loss if you don't give me a discount?

I suck at negotiating. It's my birthday next month. Should I give up now and try to negotiate on my birthday or does that not matter to them? It's my first time buying something off of Dell.

Anyone got a script I can use to get a 25-30% discount?

Your best approach is talking about how HP has this cool XX% off deal on a similar model, or they're offering a free upgrade to Blu-ray or something similar.

They're trying to build brand loyality and the worst thing a CSR can do is let you:
    1) Not buy their product based on bad service
    2) Buy the competitors product because of a better deal
    3) Tell your friends how much you hate Company #1 and love Company #2 now, and recommend them to your new favorite company.

So convince the CSR that there's a similar product from another company with slightly more options, you're planning on sticking with the company who wins your bid for a long time, and you've got 3-4 siblings/friends/kids who will be buying laptops for college soon. Most of them are commission based, and assure them you will follow up with a good review/call to their supervisor.

Companies that participate in the EPP or MPP (member purchase program) programs all have an EPP/MPP code that they give their employees in order to qualify for these discounts. Is that what you're looking for?
