How do the dual 4850's in the m17 compare with the dual 3870's?

Yes i wouldnt hesitate for one second in getting the cards if you own a M17

 

4850x2 is comparable to 280mSLI, note I said comparable not equal in stock performance. As Kevin said it's worth even 300 more.

 

it's worth it. if you have to wait two weeks to save up and get it. DO IT.

 

Did this option just come out today on the AW website? Reason I made the topic is because the dual's are not yet on notebook checks benchmark list. But I should have just realized based on single card performance. Thanks guys.

Looks like I'm going to have to call and order them. Anyone know if you have to send the 3870's back or I could just ebay them?

Sad thing is calling from where I am is tough and then the shipping time even worse. If I ordered today, I wouldn't get them until a month from now.

 

You're looking at a 100% performance increase in games. Considering what people pay for extreme processors and what most will pay for better graphics, this is still probably even worth $600 over the 3870s.

It's a big difference. Get someone with 260M SLI to post benchmarks for a comparison.

The ram upgrade won't help. At this time 8GB will only help in special situations and gaming isn't one of them.

 

So far the verdict is that AW lets you keep the 3870s. Although we do not know if they send you a second crossfire bridge or not. If they don't and you reuse the one you got for 3870s, then reselling 3870s as a pair will be pretty difficult.

This upgrade is the best thing you can do for these notebooks. This is more important than buying a quad if you don't got one.

 

well, it's not going to be 100% increase over the 3870s or even close to that. I'll be a high number though and it does a lot better in DX10 and in DX9.

That's...just incredible. An average of 28fps...on a LAPTOP with VERY HIGH settings on 1920x1080. And we'll be getting better on our M17s with 1GB of memory on the cards instead of 512MB...(someone said that's what they had anyway)

You have every reason to be very excited about these cards , i know i would be . It will be like getting a whole new machine for a bare minimum cost.

Well, the W90 4850's are 512 mb and alienwares are 1024 mb

 

nope the m17 ones are going to be better with 1gb of vram instead of 512mb. and it's suppose to be faster also.

hopefully the clock speeds and the overclock is great also.

9800m gtx overclocked. it beat me but i'm not done with it yet!!!!!!!

i forgot to take a snip of the settings on mines but everything is default
