Some people say that they are amazing all over, some people say they are good for gaming but bad for music, and others say they suck all around. What do you guys think? Worth the extra $75?

the G35's have amazing sound quality, but they are not worth the 100$

They are terribly hot and give chronic headaches because they are so tight. I haven't used the Tactx headphones yet but I'd put my money on them only decent. Here's HH review:
    http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews.php?reviewid=874
I personally think Hardware Heaven has pretty accurate reviews.

The Razer Carcharias headset is the best headset I have used so far, esp because they are a "bang for the buck" headset.

Yeah, I read the hardware-heaven review (which is one thing that made me want them). I also looked at Razer Carcharias headphones, put they don't look as comfortable. I also don't like the way the mic sticks up.

they are plenty comfortable in my opinion. though if you have even slightly long hair it gives you circle imprints in your hair :). I'm probably getting the Carcharias again unless I find something else with great reviews

I like my G35's over my Tactx, But the Tactx are nice for LAN party because they break down really nice, The headphones themselves detatch from the head band to break down into 3 pieces.

Also in my opinion they are both comfortable. I like the Tactx Slightly over the G35 when it comes to that.

But the G35's have noise cancellation where the Tactx do not.

Over all i would recommend both.

Sorry to threadjack, but does the 7.1 actually sound like surround sound? Can you hear when guys are shooting at the back side of your head? or zombie hordes coming at you from the side.

From what I could tell yes.

"Good news everyone!" The Xbox Turtle Beach X31 headset can in fact work with computers. No need to buy a new headset now :D

Holy crap those are amazing!!!! I don't think they're ugly, I think they look amazing. Does real life have sound quality that good? Pretty expensive at $299, but looks like it would be worth it. Bit bulky for me, looks more like something for a desktop PC with the large external control box. I prefer lighter weight headsets. I like the detachable mic, as long as I don't lose it. Also, you can't adjust it much, it also moves by it's self to easily. I might get this a while down the road. Maybe when I can afford a M17x.

Hold on, the psyko headset needs four outlets. Does the M15x have that many?

I could care more about COMFORT because with these I'll be wearing them like 10 hours straight! I have a usb headset for my xbox 360? Turtle beaches work good with the computer great quality for music and what not plus games and excellent mic, but i can't use them with my ipod, if you want comfort and sound try the turtle beach earforce x1's

The psyko has 3 audio and 1 mic.
I know on the m11x there are 2 headphone jacks and a mic jack. But you can set the mic jack to be a 3rd headphone jack.
So when you hook them all up you end up with surround sound, but no mic.

Also, turns out you dont need to hook up the little power amp box thingy, you can just plug the headphones right into the computer and still have 5.1, it will just be a little less loud as with the amp hooked up.

Yeah, I looked at the M15x page. It said it has 5.1 channel INTERNAL sound. So it tries to put 5.1 channel sound through two speakers. Is there some form of adapter or mod you can get so you can have 5.1 channel sound with the mic?

I've owned the razer caracais or w/e it's called and I liked it, very good sound quality as well as comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I currently own the logitech g35 and i love them. They do tend to get tight especially since I wear glasses it kinda hurts after a period of time. But in terms of sound quality they are amazing. the simulated 7.1 surround really puts you in the action. Playing BF:BC2 with them makes you feel like your actually out on the battlefield.

All gaming headsets are garbage. If you want good quality headphones you are going to want to look at professional monitors they use in music studios. i have Shure in ear monitors and they sound unbelievable 5 different sized sleeves to accommodate any ear and you can even have the sleeves custom molded for your own ear. Completely comfortable light as a feather blocks most outside noise faithfully reproduces almost every frequency with a very even flat response as that what monitors are supposed to do. Price is another story but for quality this good you won't find it cheap.

Cant believe noone here has mentioned this yet. All the tactx headset happens to be is a Steelseries 5HV2 headset rebranded with Alienware logos.
I have a 5HV2 and i find it's brilliant and would absolutely recommend it :)

first off, love the name, swimming=life
second yeah having the logo is very satisfying. I almost want to get the tactx keyboard and exchange my imperator for the tactx mouse.
Theres a good chance I'll get the keyboard but the mouse doesn't light up as much as I'd like. Not gonna lie, but the aesthetics of Alienware products does play a large part in me buying them.

Lol thanks about the name. I do have to say that even though I like AW branded stuff I don't really have any. I use the M17x laptop's keyboard and got a G9 mouse at a very reasonable $40 from BB.

Yes, gaming headsets do suck. For listening to music! For gaming they are very good. Shure headphones are amazing. Just not for gaming. Cars suck at going on water and boats suck at going on land.

For the most part ya, I mean surround sound in a headset isn't as good as a typical surround sound. But The 7.1 works better in this headset than others I have tried.

$299.99+ Got to carry a amplifier + needs a power supply... no thanks. I'm all about bang for the buck. The G35's suit my needs just fine for now.

If i find an extra $300 ill pick them up. they look pretty cool.

You actually dont need the amp with the headphones, I checked it out, you can hook the wires right to the laptop. The amp will just make them get louder than you need them to be.

Nope mate! They are both simply SOUND and in gaming they DO have MUSIC.

Gaming headsets suck, plain and simple, in either gaming and music except 5.1 headsets are better than headphonesoundstage wise. If you are not getting a 5.1 headsets it's better to get audiophile headphones.

You just need a audiophile headphones with fun factor (favor rock, R&B...) not neutral factor (favor Jazz, classical), and you are all set.

Yes, gaming headsets are kind of pointless. You might as well invest some more money and get a good, high-quality set of studio or DJ headphones.

They will last forever if you take care of them and the sound quality is superb.

There really is no competition between gaming and studio cans.

    x2

Get something like Beyerdynamic DT770/80ohm or Sennheiser HD595 (both around $120) or at least, Audio Technica ATH-M50 for about $80. After using those audiophile cans for about a week or more, you will never go back to your TactX or Logitech etc... They are just market hype and plainly a joke compared to studio cans.

You will jump out of your desk when you hear explosions with bass monster studio cans. Deep, low, tight and punchy bass does a magic touch on sound in war scenes and full range mid brings dialogs in RPG to life.

Not plastic and fake sound like those in gaming headsets.

... I have been to head-fi.org too much lately I guess :D
