Well, title here is all I really am curious about. I had an m15x which turned out to have several problems and I ultimately sent it back a week after I got it for a full refund.

I saw the m9750 but one of the biggest downers is that it only uses Merom processors as opposed to Penryns. It does, however, now utilize the 8700m gt card (which was in my m15x).

    Any thoughts?

That GPU is a lot faster than the one on your M15x / M9750 AND it uses all the newest tech such as DDR3, 9800GTS, 2.26 core 2 duo.

By the way I held this at my local bestbuy and it is pretty **** solid and the screen is beautiful and glossy. I was also able to type like a MADMAN on the keyboard. Also has HDMI which the M9750 doesn't have.

yeah, the M9750 is somewhat outdated (the older Merom chips still hold their own), but as Stone pointed out, the P-7811FX might be something to consider, or you can wait a couple of days till the Arima w840/OCZ whitebook starts shipping, if you like the looks of the M9750.

    @ Stone

Definitely an option to consider. I also found this puppy at my local best buy, and read a review on it in my Maximum PC.

I'm just reluctant to jump on it because I don't know much about Gateway. Moreso because I never took the time to look into the company.

Only real negative about it is that I'm not sure on the whole appearance of the laptop. It looks nice, but the orange?

I know my laptop shouldn't be all about appearance, but it is still important. :p

However, that price is smoking hot. It is definitely getting put on the list, and I'll do some research on it.

    @ ichime

Yes, I was reading up on the whitebook. It seems like something I'd be interested in. If I did go through with something like that, would you recommend going through a reseller or building it myself?

I do have some pretty extensive experience with building desktops, but not laptops. :p

@Mizumon - Go for a reseller as usually you can find one whose price is VERY reasonable. Also I kind of like the orange trim on the gateway. Go to your bestbuy and test it out and see how you like the color. Also make sure you get it for $1250 and that it is the right model as bestbuy also still has the 8800GTS in stock in some places.

Yeah, I'd recommend a reseller for those who are new to the notebook scene. However, I know at least 1 vendor who plans to sell a barebone of the whitebook (with LCD, disk drive and GPU). If you feel you have confidence in finding the individual parts (i.e. HD, RAM, CPU etc.) for a better price and feel confident in putting the parts yourself, then go for the latter. It would be like the OCZ DIY 15 kit they already have, but bigger essentially.

One of the great things about the Arima chassis is that there is just one lid that covers CPU, GPU(s), and RAM, while the HD bays are on the side with a pretty modular frame. So once you get accustomed to dealing with the internals of a notebook, it will be easy and fun (as I found out Customizing my M9750 and Also when I built my XPS M1710 literally from parts on ebay).

Just to answer your post. M9750 is a good computer I love mines, but don't buy it new. It's over priced try to get a used one from someone here or ebay for a good price. Although AW holds their value pretty good!
