I wanted to know how long your alienware laptops take to start up. I timed mine from the moment I pressed the alienhead to turn it on till I heard the welcome sound once it logged in and it took 1 minute and 20 seconds. I want to know how does this compare to yours.

Are you counting 1min20sec until every startup program is loading, or just to the desktop? Mine to the desktop is ~40 seconds from hitting the button.

Yep, the boot times are slow. To my R2 it takes ~1min to load, IBM ThinkPad R40(2003) ~30sec :)

SSD Rules all in terms of Boot-Up times, once you go Solid Sate you can't go back. Meaning if one pc has a Solid State drive, pretty soon they pretty much al have to have a solid state drive. :D

Yep, but it has the latest Ubuntu 9.10 with Compiz and other effects. I tried Ubuntu on M17x but got a longer boot time, dunno why.

i got 39-40 seconds total from power pressed to desktop screen.
Maybe 38 seconds if I can enter my password 1 second faster.

I have M11X 500gb 7200 rpm, 4gb, nothing in startup and all disabled all unnecessary startup items. 40 seconds is great for me as well as no need for SSD at the moment. Maybe when prices go down, 20 second startup and even more benefits, is great, but price just not for me. plus I'd would like to get a 500gb SSD when available.
