    Hey again.

How many of you guys use a cooler for your M17/M17x?

If you are the one that use it, please also specificate the brand and opinion ;)

Any other use another system to low the temps? like.. dont know, for example I used with a Pavilion DV6 a book! , I put it in the back raising a bit the laptop , and it was working, I get 6-10 C less .

    Greetings

I use a Zalman NC2000 with my M17. I don't think the Crylo NZXT was out when I got my Zalman or I would have gotten it instead. I actually like how it lifts the back end up, its easier to type that way. It also fits perfectly and is very quiet. I couldn't tell you how well it helps cool the laptop though as I haven't actually done any testing on it.

I don't, the M17x's fans are enough for me :).

My Cryo NZXT was DOA (fans touching grille), so got returned/refunded. In the end I was glad, as then bought the (cheaper) Antec Cooler 200 which is (imo) a much better cooler, and as it is one giant (blue lit) fan underneath the M17x (blowing up) where it needs it most, it does a great job at low volume with GPUs seldom going over 65-67C when cranked (previously high 70s/low 80s) - tres impressive!

Antec Notebook Cooler 200 - highly recommended!

    I don't use a cooler on my M17.

I'm considering getting either the Cryo or the Antec 200, but I'm concerned that due to the CPU intake being so far left that the Antec 200 won't help it.

No cooler here. Stock cooling handles the job fine as long as you provide unobstructed air flow.

Well I don't use a cooler and right now my temps are good. Usually they are a bit lower. And at idle they are fantastic. Right now I have music on, web surfing and some Photoshop.

I would get one anyway though. Just to raise my computer for typing purposes. And, of course, a few degrees less doesn't hurt anyone.

The cooling on this machine is just fantastic.

    Now:

Under full load they are about high 50's throughout.

I use the Zalman NC2000 when I'm on the road because it fits in my bag and I use the Antec 200 at home because it provides better cooling when slightly modified. The Zalman is not great for an M17 as the airflow doesn't line up very well with the cooling needs of the system.

The Antec is good if you make a few modifications to it. First of all, the feet of the M17 barely, barely fit on the Antec even if you position it perfectly. It slides off the front or the back. When this happens, the raised silver plates around the fan are basically flush with the air intake on the bottom of the laptop - which sucks. Soooo, I did two things: 1. I disassembled the Antec case and flipped those silver pads upside down (you have to swap sides for the shapes to line up) so that they became concaved instead of convexed. Then I bought some circular rubber feet with adhesive backings and placed them in the four corners of the Antec. This raises the M17 about a half inch off the cooler and makes for a very nice setup. I could post a pic later if necessary, but with these mods the Antec is a very nice choice if you don't need to carry it around because it's a little bulky.

i also have the nzxt cryo and use to type better and if i need to put it on my bed for movie it comes in quite handy. the cooling is just good extra as my temps remain below 70° . with the nzxt it is around 60°, so it reduces heat by 10° for me.

I use the Antec 200, absolutely PHENOMENAL cooler, silent as a whisper even running full speed, and drops the temps down a few degrees no problem (which, on a system with cooling as good as the M17x, is impressive). What I would like to know is what kind of software people are using to control (if any) the stock fans in the M17x- I would love to be able to get them to not turn on as often now that I've got the Antec set up....

I use the cheap Swiss Gear "Iceberg" from Wal-Mart and it seems to work very well...it has two fans and they are pretty quiet and it keeps my M17 fans at bay, unless I play Cysis or Fallout 3 and the such!! It also has a tilt to it that helps I think with typing and ventilation and also has sides that pop out to accommodate 17" M17 for lap use also...if I ever used it away from the desk!! I wish there was a way to liquid cool a these things...man that would be COOL!! No pun intended!!

I'm using the Crylo NZXT. Had the NC2000 and wasn't impressed with it. The fans are on the lower end when our fans are on the upper part of the computer

I use a tilted platform, it has fans, but I find I do not need to use them. The M17x has an awesome built-in airflow system.

I used the central AC system of my house and a Cryo. Ice cold!
