My M17 is to be delivered this Monday and I'm curious if I should do a format out-of-the-box due to bloatware. Would this be neccessary? Or is Alienware pretty good when it comes to OEM software?

Even though I question some of AW's practices, I have to say when it comes to the out of the box experience in terms of software it is great. I think they include Nero or something to burn CD's and that's it. There is no reason to create a custom vista CD, it works fine from the start.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the information.
Dell on the other hand...

Yepp... HP as well. I just made a custom Vista install CD (following a guide on here) that I've used to install Vista on my HP instead of using their CD's. The only problem is that my HP is now apparently manufactured by Alienware but that's only a small problem

That is one thing i love about AW... Never has extra crap like norton mccafe 9 million links to online offers and all those other things that we NEED

Concerning Alienware and bloatware, they are the best in my opinion as well as others:
PC World 2007
and
Alienware's Official bloatware stance
