I have an old Alienware M14x. I can't find if it is r1 or r2. From looking around on this forum and google it seems like the processor is usually the identifier, but none of the threads I found had my processor. My M14X has a i-4710. Please help!

You have the Alienware 14, or in some regions, the Alienware m14xR3.
I think you forgot the "7" after the "i" and the "MQ" after the "4710".

View a product list for Dell/Alienware laptops or enter your service tag at: http://www.dell.com/support
The service tag will identify your model, its original factory hardware specifications and configuration.
I do not recommend using Dell System Detect to scan or "Autodetect" your system.

That's a great way to identify the system. If that fails, the processor is always the key. :p

The answer is in your signature. You have an R3, right?

Well, technically, the R3 in his sig is the m17xR3, not the m14xR3 (14 R1).
Still, I'm confused by the question. OP, do you know anything else about the laptop other than the looks and CPU?

That's exactly why I asked the way I did. It's confusing and sometimes hard to even know what machine is being asked about when people make up their own model names. Since the release of first Haswell models, the "M" and "X" are no longer part of the model names.

Alienware 14 is not an M14xR3

Alienware 15 is not an M15xR2

Alienware 17 is not an M17xR5

    Alienware 17 R2 is not an M17xR6

Alienware 18 is not an M18xR3

Below are the machines (as previously posted). If they are not in the list below, they do not exist. If he were to enter his service tag at www.dell.com/support as previously suggested, the correct model name would be clearly identified and original specs would leave nothing to wonder about.
