"test?" Or Teat as in Mooooooo... lol

Ok I'm using furmark to stress test it. It wont seem to let me over clock Core Clock over 600 though why?
-
Kk so clock default is 550 could only overclock to 600 after that it said invalid settings and were not applied.
Memery clock default is 790 I overclocked to 948 which is the max it can go
shader clock default is 1210 overclocked to 1540 coulda went more probably allot more but I said well thats a high number over hte default I'll just leave it at 1540.
Is this all good? I'm using the 240 for m15x. -
Quick question, I'm using the BIOS to overclock my P8600. I'm also testing it by running 3DMark06 Vantage. I raised my FSB from 1256 to 1261 and my CPU score actually went down slightly, although my GPU score went up. Can somone explain this to me? with the FSB at 1256 my CPU score was 5293 with a GPU score at 10244 and an overall score of 8303. When I raised the FSB to 1261 my CPU score went down to but the GPU score went up to 10433 for an overall score at 8378. Any suggestions how I should proceed? I'm playing with the P8600 untill the QX9300 gets here. Should be any day now.

The CPU speed helps improve bandwidth
But I'm not much into benching but I do know why it happens. -
Ahh got it. Using advantage I had it crash at 1266 FSB, now i'm narrowing it down between 1261 and 1266.
-
Games are the true test. Like l4d it's CPU intensive

What are you using on the GPU to OC? I need to do some reading before I start playing with the GPU, and how easy is it to reset back to default? In BIOS should I have integrated graphics enabled or disabled? Rengsey, what did you set your FSB at? When I ran Vantage with the FSB at 1266 it crashed. Perhaps my chip is not quite as OCable as yours. The_Moo, the only game I really have is MW2. I might pick up L4D2 tommorrow at the local bootleg shop.

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
you need to flash your cards
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Memory: 1475
FSB: Between 1420 - 1422
As for GPU OC, I use ATI RBE to change the GPU to 550 and Memory to 1050. You have to change the clock first using ATI RBE and then flash it at boot up. -
Ahh sounds like I'm going to have to do some reading, right now I'm running vantage with just the FSB at 1265 to see if I make it throught the test. Also what are the settings in Vantage? I'm running it at Performance as the default preset.

Cool, thanks for the help, I'll do several more runs. Does raising the Memory speed help to raise the limit for the CPU OC? I think my chip may top out at 1265 for Vantage
Hmm ran Vantage at 1266 FSB with Memory at 1400 and scored even lower. GPU 8634, CPU 5424, Overall 7521. When your not benching, do you return your settings back to stock? -

DR650SE: You can max out your MEM and FSB @ 1333. -
sorry if this has already been asked, but before i try NVIDA syatem tools, has anybody verified that it works with windows 7?
-
-
ok, thanks. i turned off UAC as the second thing i did.
-
hmm, i installed the monitor and update part as well. is there any reason i should install it or is it just not needed for this?
-
only if you want it.
-
Is there an agreed upon easy/safe oc for ram, gpu, qx9300 yet provided you use a cooler?
-
define safe.
-
Not causing bsod's and artifacts.
-
3.25Ghz.
/10char -
Thanks!
Woot -
BTW, I only get artifacts when doing really high GPU OC'ing.
-
Sounds good, I just don't feel like spending hours stress testing the gpu/cpu like the old days. Maybe I will sooner or later.
-
If I could PM you I would send you a link to all the testing I did with the M17x. Unfortunately according to the rules no personal links. If someone else has it they can post it.
-
Thanks I will keep watch.

Gatti-man, here's the discussed link

Wow great. Part of me regrets buying one with the qx9300 but I do alot of video editing and thought it would be best for my personal use.

Part of me regrets NOT buying a 9300, so don't sweat it.

So, i just got my M17x yesterday. Got into the BIOS and overclocked. Managed to get the FSB to 1333 stable enough to bench it. The thing is that when i use CPU-z to monitor i see the frequency shift between 2500 and then down to around 2000 every 5 seconds or so. Is this expected behaviour?
I'm on the performance power plan. -
Yes, I'm pretty sure that is normal, when the processor isn't being put under load it will throttle back to save power, but when the CPU power is needed it will run at your max OC freq
-
That was my first thought to, but it happens even after a coold boot with nothing running. I would expect it to clock down in that case, but it keeps cycling between 2 and 2.5GHz even with no load.
-
Backroimd processes are running making it do that
Intel speedstep is the name -
Yeah, i found it out after some Google work.
Turns out i maxed out the q9000 on My first day. 1333MHz is the max FSB setting. Good thing the 9200 comes next week. -

I hope I can make it up to the full 1333 MHz FSB. I'm at 1250 right now, making for a core clock of 2.343GHz. About halfway done running a 15 minute OCCT stability test.
Interesting note, as I've read in multiple places, the machine wont boot with a very small overclock. I tried going from 1066 to 1166 at first, and it wouldn't boot. 1200 booted just fine and is rock stable, so I'm up at 1250 now.
this is exciting. I haven't even had this thing for 3 hours yet and I've already got a 17% overclock!

hi there... I'am having problem after trying to overclock? i'am currently at 1270MHz FSB and i'am having some buzz sound from my left speaker when i play games....I'am using P8700 and i've seen ppl going for 1333MHz FSB with stable condition....Any sugggestion?
-
Explosivpotato Notebook Consultant
Do you experience the buzzing when using external speakers? Does it occur at stock clocks?
-
yea i've experiencing it when i'am using the external speakers.... Stock Clock?
edit:I'am hearing the buzz sound from left and right of the speaker when i'am playing games now... And the buzz sound is very annoying... Should i downclock it? Any suggestion? -
Explosivpotato Notebook Consultant
By stock clocks, I mean the clock rates that your computer was at when it shipped. Put it back to stock clocks and see if the buzzing is still there. It could be something as simple as a bad audio cable.
Do you hear the same buzzing on the internal speakers? How about on headphones, or another set of speakers? -
oh... i dont experience it with headphones ... And yes.. i only had this problem when i overclocked... doesn't have a problem when its in stock clock.. Thats why i'am trying to ask for help from anyone who had the same problem with me xD

Hey MaoMau,
O.k. so the principle here is to run your Memory @ 1333mhz and your FSB @ 1333mhz. Thats @ 3.0Ghz. You shouldn't have any problem with the P8700 as it's a tat bit better than a P8600. Try it and let me know. -
run my memory to 1333mhz as well? ok... i'll try it out now.. update u in awhile
Edit:I cant play games when i'am using 1333mhz on FSB and Memory... it will go to desktop and says that the game has stopped working
I've tried setting the Memory to 1250 and FSB to 1333 , i can play game nicely but the OCCT had some problem occurs... -
Each chip has differant capabilities, even if they are the same processor. I can't really get my P8600 over 2.75

I think you've order more qx9300s than I have.
