I see some bricked systems...
-
Very cool Moo, Sadly I will never try it for fear or messing up..and owning a handsome paper weight.
-
yea me to but i love my new splash screen
I can offer to do this for people ..... i will test it out on my own system and have proof it work so no body could come after me
put it all in one folder so you can't mess up -
Nice write up but yeah I would advice people to stay away from the bios editors. I actually think there is an easier way to do this but I'm not remembering right now.
-
I remember doing something like this on my old Inspiron 8000, Dell used to have a utility (SplashA00.exe if I remember correctly)
It used to require an image with exact size in pixels. Is there any limitation in image size/resolution for this process.
At the time I extracted the dell image and edited it with my name and telephone number. Thought it might aid its return if ever stolen as very few thieves would have a clue about replacing BIOS splash screen. -
An awful lot of work for an awful lot of risk and a puny reward...
At least we know how to do it now. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Asus has a very simple to use utility for this with their desktop boards, would be nice to see a similar utility from Dell (although they want as many people as possible to see that Alien head haha)
-
LOL... well thanks, but no thanks.
Personalize has got a new Moo-ning. -
would this work on the M17 Moo? you are on about the Alienhead we see straight away at Boot arent you? Does it look different on the M17X?
I would not do it like....just wondering! -
It works if you have a Phoenix bios but I'm assuming Moo only tested it on the M17x.
-
yea lemme know what kind of BIOS is on the m17 i cannot remember ....
I can insert the pictures and put it all in one big folder so alll you have to do is download it and run it if any one ants me to -
Do you have to use WinPhlash or can you just use the Dell utility program if the name is the same?
-
i just used it because it came in the .exe from dell
i trust it having flashed so many times -
be VERY VERY careful pbe does not always compile a rebuild properly and you may end up with a bricked system.... trust me moo...
the bios from the m17 is built with insyde be VERY careful playing with it if you do not know how...
also to add the file you add MUST be the right size in both file size and the actual pixel size of the pic.. to big and you have a brick..
also it can only be a certain amount of layers a lot of jpegs made with photoshop will not work because they are to complex for it to be displayed..
any info you need just ask.. -
-
moo you do know the file you have on media fire is not a legal download.. pbe is a VERY expensive program.. you even have a keygen included..
-
Besides it'd be much more difficult to use a torrent engine even if Moo were to constantly seed it. -
im sure this will be pulled though as soon as they see it..i dont care what people do myself..
and no pbe will not open the m17 / ocz bios you will get a message that says no bcp's found.. -
i removed it
never looked into PBE -
i don't care what people say about small reward...i think it would be sick to have a personalize splash screen
-
so did i
and i did -
I don't care so much about the splash screen..it's that stupid Vista logon screen I hate..all colourful and whatnot. Any way to change that to a darker more appropriately themed one? It just doesn't suite the black avatar I have..
-

Stardock's Logon Studio works well. I've been using it forever it seems. Once you set your login, its set. So to answer your Q, no it does not have to run all the time.
I've pieced together a couple of AW M17x logins which I'll make available in a day or so... Need to put em all together and upload them. -
Moo-
Didnt Tuneup Utilities 2009, or something like that... Do that for you before... Im not sure if it was tuneup utilites, but it was something on that line to where it gave you a whole different amount of options...
Like you could change the color of the windows loading bars, use pictures for you loading (the alienhead screen load up), etc and lots more....
EDIT: yeah I think this was the app for this (tuneup utilities 2009 ---lets you choose the look of the log in screen, the boot screen, etc.)
Only downfall, it not free, but theres a no limit 30 free trial) -
does it work on windows7 cause I want to change my boot screen
-
It work with any is dunce its bios no an os
