I'm trying to find a way to check parts availability on the i7-820qm, I want to know how to find out if they have it in stock right now. I'm waiting for a replacement for a 2 month battle with a bad R1 system and it's supposed to come with the i7-820qm. They promised a ship date of 6-18-10 last friday and now they're telling me that the processor is backordered for 1-2 weeks and that they won't change it to an i7-920qm (which they say is in stock now) unless they can't get the processor for about 2-4 weeks. They have played games with me quite a few times to this point, and I have a feeling they are now too as another member on here had an approval for the same processor on a replacement 1 day after mine and his has shipped!I don't have a service tag for a computer that takes the i7 yet so any info on how I can find out if they have it in stock would be appreciated!

i would call order support and see if this is true

Thanks Dirtydan but they're going to require the order number or service tag and most likely give me the same info my rep gave me, I called order support on Friday and they wouldn't give me any info other than a ship date of 6/28/10 which my rep said isn't even necessarily true as they "don't know when they'll get it". So I'm getting the ring around on all sides and need to find out, I'm thinking that if they thought it was someone legitimately trying to upgrade someone might get a straight true answer.

Oh and they also stated that in the event they do have to change the processor to the 920xm that they would have to cancel the order entirely and start over again so 2-4 weeks of an inital wait then probably another 1-4 weeks after that for the new order.

I'm waiting on a replacement with the same processor, looks like were both going to be waiting for awhile, I was told I might have to wait as long as 4 weeks!

And I thought things were looking up, I'm starting to wonder if they approved the new R2's and gave up the fight thinking that they could use them once the i7-x40 cpu's came out as they wouldn't sell much. That puts the time frame that we'll receive them about the same time or after AW will most likely releast the newer i7's. This is getting ridiculous. Again if anyone has a suggestion on how to get a straight answer on stock please help me out! +1 rep to anyone who does!

Just to let you know I was told mine will ship this friday! If I'm correct you've been at it longer then I with tech support?!

Yup I've been at it quite a bit longer than you, I was told Friday was a possibility as well but as I haven't had a single date they told me come true I'm not counting on it. I have had probably 10 different repair/replacement ship dates promised and not one has been right.

I found a solution to my problem, found out they have multiple i7-820qm's in stock not scheduled to be used for anything else. My rep is going to have heck to pay tomorrow, and Dell may be getting sued very soon.

Sorry about the rep lying to you. I think you should record all conversations (thats what I did). If the reps know they are being recorded then I believe they would not lie at all. Additionally, they know your being dead serious because they know your gathering data for a law suit. I can only speculate but I believe thats why mine was expedited. Good Luck!

You'd think for a company this big that they would have all these parts in stock or at least get them within a day or so.
