There are plenty of deals out there. Best Buy, Sam's Club, Micro Center and I believe you could even get a deal from Dell themselves through EPP. Can't find the link.

EPP is a student discount of 7%.

EPP - employee purchase program. Student discounts are essentially the same thing.

You just need to state what business you work for or college/university you attend if the dell epp rep asks. If they qualify, you get the discount. But keep in mind not all reps ask.

I have found this works quite well when purchasing a new system from Dell.

    1. Contact Dell Sales (if you are an EPP member, even better).

    2. Tell them what system you are interested in and go over the configuration you want.

    3. Once the sales rep has configured the system to your specs, ask if they can bring the price down. Tell them you have been looking at another manufacturer with nearly the same config for a cheaper price. See if they can come down on the total. Once you are at the lowest they will go (they may not drop it at all at first), tell them to please save it as a quote and provide you with a quote number along with an email of the quote. Explain you will be making a decision within the next day or so and thank them for their time. To sweeten it a bit for them, ask for their extension# and times they will be working so you can get back to them for the sale as soon as you decide to go with Dell.

    4. Wait a day or so and call up Dell again. Do not call the first sales rep you spoke with, contact another. Give them your quote#. Once they pull it up, see if they can do any better on the price. If not, thank them and tell them you will consider it and the quote is to be kept active.

    5. Call back again, try different times of the day/night. Eventually, you will be able to get the price down a bit and have them throw in next day shipping, or an accessory. You could instead of the price reduction, ask em to throw in an extra battery. All of this is possible, you just have to play the game.

    6. The quote is typically good for 10 days. So keep trying :) This isn't the car industry and there is no cash for dead pc program... the economy isn't really moving well for them or anyone else. They want to make a sale.

I have been able to save a couple of hundred typically whenever I have had to order a system. This + an EPP discount to start with can be quite nice.

    Give it a try. ;)
