I can't seem to get the keyboard lights to work, but if i can get rid of the pipe lights, I'm sure it will work.

Did you get the backlit keyboard with your m17x (it's an extra option)? Getting rid of the pipe lights wouldn't help the keyboard lights turn on.

The lights. Does it say on your order that it came with a "backlit" keyboard? It was an extra choice when you ordered the system.

LOL. Its the option you pay extra for that allows your keyboard to light up. If you didnt purchase it, that could very well be why its not working.

It's an extra $50, just so you know. Well anyways, if you're sure, just try and re-install the Alienware "Light FX" software.

Check Alienware's site and update all your drivers. Also, try updating your BIOS. You can find all that in the "MyHive" section of Alienware's site.

I guess reinstalling as many drivers as you can would be the best idea (motherboard, AlienFX, etc.).

When you log onto Alienware's site, look for "MyHive". You'll find everything that you need there.

No. If it was a hardware problem you would, since it's a software problem, it's something you should be able to fix. If there's no fix for it now, I'm sure that Alienware will offer a fix in a new BIOS or driver update..

I know it a software issue. Due to a few facts

1 My frist Keyboard work. But due to a Fault on the keyboard the (I) Keyboard keep dropping off.

2 The secondary keyboard work. Untel Like you I reinstall Vista.

There is many people who had the same issue They reinstalled vista and the when you load up Command center. The keyboard not even listed.

    No bios updates yet.

Best idea is Call alienware explain What you did. That you reinstall vista. See if they can do anything. I change from Vista on a 120gb hard disk. To a 320gb 16 mb cache hard disk.

Why is it that when i formated my drive & installed vista then alienfx, i got the option to install 3 versions from the m17x?
The funny thing is that i picked the m17x skullcap out of curiosity, & the crazy part is that it's with the light pipe, but i had a choice to pick ripley without light pipe, but i didn't, i think they are planing on making the m17x with skullcap & light pipe, that would be sick!!!!

Now i can't get that to show up again, do u think it was cuz i removed the hdd, then the battery, power cord.

Like maybe that does some kind of a reset, i don't know, what u guys think?

If so, i think i solved everybodys problem.

not very probable. i don't think they'd build one version of the m17x with lightpipe and another one without.

Please forgive me if i'm off the pace here but, i wasn't aware that the m17x has light pipes (i'm assuming that you mean the ones around the screen).

As for them working or/not you need the latest version of the command centre. As Atol correctly said they are working out some glitches with the updated command centre software but, the Hize part of there website would probably be the place to find them.

If you look in my signature there's a link to some useful links (Notebook Care & Maintenance Guide), part of the list is the m17x part of AW support site.

My m17x has no lightpipe, nor did it imply that it had the option of a lightpipe when I ordered it either. I know the m15x has a lightpipe.

I also re-installed Vista and got that strange option, I chose with the lightpipe as well. Now I can't get it to go away. I had taken the battery out as well. Although I didn't remove the hard drive.

At least we are not the only ones who got that, when u pick m17x WITH SKULLCAP, it comes with the light pipe feature, but u will only get it if u do a certain order!

I figured it all out, now i just have to start all over to get my keyboard lights to work.

I have a question under myhive I have this download as an option " Alienware Command Center m15x system identification " It will supposedly fix the issue with the m15x so I'm not sure if you have that in your "myhive" Also have you tried to create a new theme? I've heard of other people trying that with the m15x and it also worked.
