Just wondering if Hibernating is bad in any shape or form, because as i see it, it's a much faster version of shutting down with no consequences which makes me wonder why the shutdown button hasn't been replaced by the hibernate button.. Sorry if I've missed something

For the most part, Hibernating is a good option for sure! It would be nice to have a 4GB tiny dedicated high speed SSD for just that purpose :)

There are times that resuming from Hibernate or Standby can cause issues with active peripherals or Wifi/Bluetooth connectivity for example.

It's a matter of choice and yeah perhaps it should be the default. You can set it to be the default if you prefer but for the mass of users it's probably better not to just to avoid complications which may arise for SOME of them :)

with win 7 shut downs and boot up are pretty fast, so i really don't see the need for it. also you can set the power button to hibernate or stand by in your power options.
