Much love for The Moo for the comprehensive (if a bit shaky) video on how to do it.

Out went the Q9000 and in went the "QX9200" Had a few scary moments, i ripped the flat cable connected to the "plastic thingy" with the alien head and touch icons on it straight out, but no damages.

    Happy happy.

    Increased multiplier from 8 to 9. Ran @ 2.66 and 3Dmark06'ed at 12300.

It's 15 minutes past midnight here, so i'll just go to bed now. :)

    Temps was peaking @:

    CPU: 61
    GPU's: 51
    9400: 79! :-(

Your CPU temp is low. Overclock higher. until you get to 75C.
People are running their Q9000 CPUs at 2.8ghz.

The Q9200/Q9000 are basically QX9300 that didnt yield the same results @ the same voltage thus they were sold as lower models.

Maybe it's your ram that is unstable?

Did you try lowering the rams frequency with thaiphoon burner?

I'm not overclocking the RAM. Only the FSB. I'm running them unlinked. RAM at 1066, FSB at 1315.

    Don't get it.

    3Dmark06 score with Q9000 OC to 2.52 was 12666

    3Dmark06 score with QX9200 OC to 2.67 was 12300

Seems the QX is better at everything when i look at the details, except SM 3.0 where it's a lot worse than the Q. 6200 for the Q versus 5140 for the QX.

    What's this?

    Overclocking the FSB VS multi?

How are you overclocking the QX9200 (multiplier or FSB)?

yeah, i actually looked at the video and though " yeah, i got this thing" and just took the plastic strip of. a few seconds later in the video the Moo explained about the cable.. :)

OC the Q9000 with FSB and the QX9200 with multiplier.

You get better performance when you OC the FSB.

That is why the 3dmark score is lower.
Also you can use less voltage if you OC the FSB.

When overclocking your FSB also OC your ram at a 1:2 ratio, which basically means if you OC your FSB to 1200, then OC your RAM to 1200 as well. It helps keep it stable and you should yeild better results and more stability. The stock 1066MHz RAM should be stable to at least 1333MHz. Try that and let us know how it works out for you. Maybe try overclocking higher as well. Also SM 3.0 is a graphics test. It may be lower due to instability. Did you update drivers or anything? I notice when I bench, GPU and CPU tests tend to fluctuate. Perhaps you had a background app running which had an effect on it. Lots of things can have an impact on synthetic benchmarks

Right now i'm testing FSB @1220 and memory at default 1333.

Only update to the system besides the CPU last night was the A03 BIOS this morning.

    EDIT:
This is so strange. i got 12666 from the Q9000 @ 2.52GHz (CPU FSB 1333 and RAM 1333) But my best score with the QX9200 just now was 12659 @2,82GHZ (CPU FSB 1270 and RAM 1333)

    I don't get it!

It's still the SM 3.0 that's a lot lower on the last runs. SM 2.0 and CPU are both around 10-15% higher on the QX than the Q.

Overclocking too far can have a negative impact on benchmark CPU scores. I think for me anything above FSB 1300 I see a drop in score, although I can never get consistant scores

Why is it that the M17x doesn't have i7 when the M15x does? Isn't that at some point unfair? Or is this to come in the near future?

Read up a little bit, the M17x with an i7 was already announced.

The reason it hasn't been available until now is mostly political. Finding a chip that could run SLi/CrossfireX AND support the integrated memory architecture of the i7 required Intel and Nvidia to cooperate, and they were refusing to do so for a while there.
