$2,900 anyone see where I can get this price down a little and what changes can be made? I really wanted blu-ray player but see it is not offered anymore. Not big into gaming just need it to play gta4 and Final fantasy 13 when it comes out so do you think a 260 sli will handle it?

Congratulations! Your system is ready to be built.

Get back to 150GB HDD... for the money you'll spend to upgrade to 500GB you can buy a 1.5TB external HDD.

O.P., your proposed system is the M17x-R1 (Core 2 processors), which, particularly when coupled with Nvidia 260m/280m in SLI, has suffered from severe DPC latency issues resulting in stuttering, audio cracking, drop-outs and freezing reported in several threads and hundreds of messages in this forum. After 5 or 6 months, the cause remains uncertain and the cure elusive. See the following threads:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=434691

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=408300

I would recommend great caution before jumping into that quagmire.

For the same price, you can get the M17x-R2 (Core i5/i7 processors) with either an i7-720QM or i7-620M processor and dual ATI 4870s in CrossFireX, a significantly stronger and more stable system. Avoid the pain.

I read in the forums, and heard in person, that you can get good discounts when you just call dell, instead of ordering online.

Yes, because I think you will be dealing with a sales rep that gets a commision. I called back after getting a quote the day before and talked to a different EPP sales rep and got even more of a discount. It helps if you have a Dell Preferred Account too.

Drop the warranty down a bit. You can always upgrade the warranty as time goes on, that way you aren't spending so much right now.

Yeah I made this post before the R2 was out. I made a new post and found out my company has the 10% epp and someone on here told me how to get the extra 3% if i use a dell card instead of my visa. This is what I am waiting on. I have the cash burning a hole in my pocket and want to get this soon but want to make sure it will handle my needs and last a few years. I hate to order this and miss out on something that will be available next week.

I have not seen a single site that has verified FF13 on PC. I think you have read rumors. Wikipedia says no (but that's not always true). PCworld says no. Everything I have read says xbox/ps3 cross-console. I would know because if it's on a PC, I prefer it there.

If you got a quote emailed to you after you called (if you called EPP yet) that means they have it on record. Call back and let them know you have a quote already and was wondering if you could possibly get a better deal. If you haven't called yet, do it and get a quote. Then let them know you want to think about it. Call back the next day and see what you can get. If you get someone new you might get lucky. It worked for me and I got another $150 off just for agreeing to use my DPA.

I have not called yet. If they gave you an extra $150 did they also give you the 3% ?

My brother just bought an alien ware desktop for $2,800 so was hoping I can mention that and see if I can get a little cut.

After the tennis finals I will look for the sites that said ff13 is for PC also. It might be a rumor but I have seen it on more than 1 site and also seen it on other sites saying no. I guess time will tell. I do not own either a 360 or ps3 and do not want one but I might have to break down for that game.

Off topic but here are the links for the people that wanted to know more about ff13. I am doing research to make sure this system will be able to handle ff13 as we all know that this will take massive amount of power for this game.

Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360 *and* the PC. Square Enix announced this way back at its E3 press conference. The time has come: Final Fantasy XIII has been officially announced for PC systems.
An even more interesting thing is the fact that, unlike some people might expect, the PC version of FFXIII will not be a console port, but rather the Xbox 360 and PS3 variants will be ports of the PC game.

Just wanted to jump in here and say that FF13 has NOT been announced for PC. Read that Kotaku link all the way through and you'll see they updated it with the correction. FF14 will be out for PC, but not 13.

Here it is directly from Kotaku:
Update: We contacted Square Enix, and according to the company, "The game is being built using PC-based development tools, but that doesn’t mean it’s being created for the PC platform. Our current plans are to release FFXIII for the PS3 and Xbox 360 only. Sorry for the confusion!" So to recap, it's being created with PC-based dev tools, but with plans only for PS3/Xbox 360 console release.

You should call Dell trying to get a quote, because they have been known to give major discounts through haggling over the phone.
