I am a huge Alienware fan.
Phase 1
The old Alienware (M15x M17x M14x M11x M18x) + (Area 51 R1 + Aurora R4 ) were really expensive, but the re the best gaming pc in the world.
Design, touches of class, all is exclusive and still unique. they were more expensive than ever, but i love em.
And we had our Alienware Monitor Keyboarde Mouse Headphones (logitech rebranded products, perfect design and the ability to build a real 100% Alienware setup)
Phase 2
(X51) (alpha) still good, now you can t buy monitor AW monitor, only key and mouse
Phase 3 (total design change)
[Alienware Area 51 R2] + [Alienware 14] and later [Alienware 13] [Alienware 15] [Alienware 17]
it s a design that works. Less "gaming" oriented, but good.
Sadly no Monitor/keyb/mouse/headphones rebrands. you cant have a complete alienware gaming setup, you need roccat parts. this is sad.
Phase 4
[Aurora R5] this is incredibly cheap and horrible design. yuo can t even compare it to the old beautiful Aurora R4 ALX. It costs half than the previous aurora, but it s uglier that HP/Dell/asus baseline desktops.
[2016 Alienware laptops] New design, finally the uglier notebooks on the planet. the back is something horrible. slim is not better if it s so ugly. i think they dropped all the premium design to lower prices, so t he old expensive but premium alienware is completly gone
still i m thinking to buy one of these, because Alienware had a great idea in this time of mistakes : graphic amplifier. I can t buy another brand if this thing works as intended

I love the new laptop designs and the triangle desktop. It even makes me want to seitch to the new aw15r3 after owning the aw15r2 for a year.

Alienware 2016 Laptop designs:
The taller radiator in back while keeping the keyboard lower seems like a functional design to keep the closed shape thinner. (Designs from a previous decade might have made the entire base a wedge: thinner front edge, thicker rear for radiators, sloped keyboard deck.) (Too bad it can't use the surface area of the back of the screen for cooling --- maybe heat pipe technology to transfer heat across the hinge is too expensive or unreliable, or maybe it might damage or distort the screen.)
The 2014 design has ~ 20° chiseled corners below the screen. The 2015 design has ~ 60° chiseled corners below the screen. These give me the impression of something mobile, like a vehicle, or a bubble. The 2016 design has square corners below the screen. This gives the me impression of something stationary, like a fixed monolith, or a kiosk. Maybe the roof-like peak contributes to this, so the silhouette is more like a building than a mobile vehicle.
The square rear corners seem to have two functions:
• Radiators can fill the full width all the way to the corner. If the rear corner of the base was chiseled as in the previous design, then the radiator might have to be taller to get the same cooling area. In theory the lid could have chiseled corners while the base was square, but that might leave a strange triangular gap when closed, or the base would have triangular fills protruding forward from the radiators below the screen, reducing the floating bubble silhouette.
• Tobii sensors are positioned as widely as possible, the full width of the screen where your eyes are looking. In theory the Tobii sensor strip could be above the Alienware nameplate so the corners could still be chiseled, but maybe that area is needed for the screen electronics. In theory the Tobiii sensor strip could be in the base below the screen, but that approach might be more likely to get dusty and malfunction. (The sensors could also get hot there, which might throw off their calibration, such as if a lens or mount expands or shrinks with temperature changes.)Last edited: Sep 5, 2016 -

Yeah I can feel you bro, No more Tact X lineup but stupid Roccat & the Total gimp fest at work since 2013 Privatization all the design and features have been cut short to maximize profits ranging from Ultra cool and Top - AuroraR1-R4/ ALX, Area 51R1-ALX R1, Alienware M18x, M17x SLI / Single, Alienware M15x, Ranger / Viking Haswell and Before Dell acquisition machines to the Lowy - new Echo lineup, New Aurora, New Area 51 et al.
They cater different crowd from 2013. We are not consumers for them anymore. Very sad to see an Enthusiast grade company steeping to Hell..Alienware Gamer ALX likes this. -
I'm not crazy over the new design especially with the light strips on the sides but it it helps keep hardware cooler without throttling and sounding like a jet taking off I'm OK with it.
They do some rights things but it all depends on price and how thermals are handled. -
They've really gone downhill with their desktops. The case is cool but once you crack it open, the components are cheap.
That's Alienware today: Pretty on the outside, ugly & cheap as hell on the inside. They're taking advantage of simpletons. -

I'm pretty sure if the cases are sold separate for $500 a pop (with full AlienFX support for 3rd party Motherboards) they'll be selling like candies.
I know I'll definitely buy one. Maybe if it can house a NH-D15 -

But their fully built computers are crap anywaysMr. Fox likes this.
