Congrats on ordering, don't bank on it ever showing up at your house...

Someone spoke to a Dell Representative, and they said any orders being filed tonight are being canceled.. Gotta wait till tomorrow at 10AM EST.

    Hi,
Thanks for the concern, but I did successfully place an order. Being a rep and knowing a friend at one dell way pays off.

    Thanks,

I spoke to one and that's what I was told.

GabeZ may have the inside hook-up though as he was the one who gave us the first in-person photos of the M17x.

    Edit: See?

so gabe....can you answer why they will not allow you to get the unit without the mcafee killware?
this is the first time i have seen the availability of "NOT" being able to have the stuff not installed with a system.

as a rep, and as someone that has inside friends, maybe you could bend an ear and let them know this is not something AW did before...
no to bloatware, this has always been an AW staple...makes me take a step back now since they are doing this.

but let us know about your config...

    More important question Gabe:

What can you tell us about the OC function? Specifically how it works and what clocks can be gained.

Sleey, do you have special dell hook-ups like Gabe? If not, your order will likely be canceled because that's what they said they're gonna do until it is officially released in the morning.

lol... well, the only thing I changed was the video card. Everything else is good enough for me. I'll upgrade the individual parts myself. 2k is quite a bit to be spending on a laptop.

Also, my apologies, but I can't provide the code. Even with the code, it must be approved by a manger.

    1 1GB Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M - SLI Enabled (NB10E-GT1)

That 1 in the front threw me off, read it quick and thought it was just 1 260.

    Congrats man.

And over a month to ship..... ugh.... why can't they be like apple and just stick it in the mail 5 minutes after you order it? FML

Most likely, the shipping will be a lot sooner. All orders are going to default to30 days. Realistically, Dell-Alienware will be shooting for around 20 days or so.

    I'm buying it for school, but I'm going to live with my grandparents in the city before school starts at NYU in the fall... And I'm not ordering it until I get there! (in a week or so) having to wait 20 days from AFTER I get to my grandparents is still a lot... Anyone have an 'instant ship code'? ^_^;

The reason the order date is tomarrow is because the systems aren't ready to go on production yet. Even though I may have ordered a day early, production is still going to start at the scheduled time. Everyone's shipment dates will be more or less the same. I was only allowed the privelege of getting in que.

Stupid jerks... they should make a bunch, like video game companies do, and just ship all those pre-made ones out on day 1, when everyone starts ordering...

WHY MUST WE WAIT SEVEN LIFETIMES?!?!?! lol?

I think the GTX 260's in SLI will provide serious performance. Maybe with a slight OC, you could get it to stock 280 sli performance.

It's a difference of $3000 out the door, or $2400 out the door.....

yeah but overclock the 280's and u will get performance that the 260's will never see, so its worth the extra money. Plus more shaders cant be matched with a card with less, no matter the overclock

True, but I like my money in my bank.... $2400 is already pushing my limits (I'm not rich like some folks in here).

260's will do what I need just fine :)

for sure, 2400 is alot of money no matter how much u have in the bank. and im sure dual 260's will do just fine, in fact those are still overkill for games today lol

Well the price of the system with the 280M SLI and QX9300 from AW is about what I was expecting to pay for a base CPU with the dual 280Ms and ebaying the QX9300 QS.

I would still save about $400 if I eBay the QX9300 QS but I don't know if that's a big enough deal.
    If I buy from AW:
-The CPU is covered under the warranty.
-I don't have to retain and swap the old CPU back in if I the machine is going in for service.
-If there is an OC function only for Extreme CPUs I'm positive it will be installed on the machine when I buy it. (I'm going to talk to AW tomorrow about this).
-Dell's Warranties are transferable increasing resale of the machine.

Right now the QX9300 from AW feels worth it but I will see how I feel in the morning when Im about to hit that buy button. Definitely going Dual 280Ms though.

The $2749 or whatever price was a damn good deal for what you get.

It's funny, because if Dell never bought AW, that price would have been for a BASE m17x.

You can thank Dell for the great pricing :)

SLI 260M's for price performance are the better deal, basically I would be paying 300 dollars more for only an extra 32 stream processors same 256bit memory bus and same 1gb of Vram and slightly higher clocks with the 2x 280M's, real world the difference between the two is not that great, not great enough for me to spend the extra 300 dollars IMO.

Oh yeah black will look amazing, If it turns out this m17x uses MXM3.0b I will buy one, and I will definitely be getting it in black with SLI 260M's. :D

I think silver is a good choice. It breaks up the laptop and gives it that two-tone presentation. However, I've always been partial to black. Blemishes always show less in black, and I guess I got use to seeing it from the m9750 days. If you really want to get technical, most flying sausers are silver ;)

Lunar silve looks sweet, but it's gonna be a fingerprint and smudge magnet!

    Keep the windex handy. :D

I wish there were more in person pics of the lunar silver m17x floating around, I would like to see it under real world lighting conditions, like we've seen with the black model.

That reminds me. Never never ever use a screen squeegee to clean a glossy screen. Lightly clear the dust with canned air and then use windex wipes to remove the oil. Never spray windex directly on the screen.
If windex is out of reach, use damp cloth to clean it. Be careful not to get the cloth so wet that the water runs out of it.

Silver looks good and the pricing is pretty decent, I would say pretty good even. Hopefully you won't see much Clevo/Sager fanboys trolling here and rant on about Alienware's overpriciness. It would be worse for them if the M980NU turns out to be pricier than the M17x when similarly specced.

About 8 months ago when the Whitebook/M17/W840 came out, it came to around $4000 with a QX9300, 4gigs of ram, a good storage system and blu ray. This system when similarly maxxed comes out to around $3600 and a "bargain" system with a low end CPU with dual GPU comes out to around $2100 (with dual GTX 260Ms), which is very competitive, especially against the M17 which is equipped with the older ATi cards.

Man, which prices getting lower, maybe I should stick with the mobile gaming niche after I get my expenses sorted out...

lol I'm a big Clevo fan, but not to the level of fanboyism, I agree the pricing is pretty good on these m17x's considering.. I am just waiting for the news if it is MXM3.0b or not and some reviews, and if all is well, this is my next laptop... seeing as how Clevo has nothing in 17" w/SLI and 16:10 in their lineup this laptop is perfect for me, and in my price range, as well as it looks beautiful. :D
