I do have the fix. I have only had downclocking happen once and still installed the final bios update. I just played THIRTY minutes of COD4 and to my surprise..I was downclocking A LOT. There are about 8 instances of downclocking by rivatuners graph. It started at 82 degrees. I have never had that downclocking this early. What is going on?! I have gamed MUCH Longer wiht no downclocking. I am pretty disappointed.

edit: i have noticed that I did not have my cooler plugged in (so it was partially blocking my vents without any cooling from the cooler). But it still doesn't make sense that it downclocked so early. I did plug in my notebook cooler (Crappy targus) and played again with no downclocking. I can't hypothesize why it would downclock at 82 degrees though. could it be that the fans were kicking in and it wasn't lowering the temps so it downclocked?

That's terrible. Make sure you let AW know so they can help you sort it asap. Are you passed your first 30 days yet?

Very unfortunately, this issue is not "A thing from the past!"
AW didn't solve anything... they threw sand on the problem to hide it a bit!!!
I wanted really hard to buy this laptop... but it's obvious the problem is there!

I am wondering (maybe chazz can add to this) if my accidentally leaving the laptop on the cooler without it actually on may have created the situation where the laptop's fans are kicking into higher gear but the temps aren't going down, so the laptop "noticed" and downclocked"...That is my guess. But I am only hypothesizing

But when you buy a laptop, you shouldn't have to rely on coolers to keep your laptop working!!! If the laptop doesnt opperate properly on it's own... Maybe they should mention it, and give you a free cooler with it!!!

right i agree, but i mean that the cooler wasnt plugged in so the fans are pushing the hot air right back into the system since the cooler is blocking the air vents.

This is very strange though because with the cooler on my temps have been very high today (84 consistently) and it didnt downclock again. This is the most unpredictable laptop ever! I still lover her though ;)

It's really sad that the "solution" did not really solve this problem! I am in great expectation as to see how this will all turn out, as I really want to buy the M15x, but with such poor "quality", I will have to hold it for the time being!

Most likely he has to send his m15x in for repairs again...

try taking it off the cooler and lay it flat on your table surface. For some reason, for myself and others (read a few pages into the attached thread) have downclocking issues when the laptop is angled. I know... weird.

rexibaby, is your laptop still downclocking even when leaving it flat on the table? i remember you saying you could play crysis for 3 hrs without downclocking.

Yea, try what mr_fro2000 suggested, it seemed to be the way to go if you don't want your m15x to downclock.
Though not in all cases, as I recall rexibaby89 still had downclocking even after placing the laptop on a flat surface.

As I recall, Chaz only tested his m15x with the x29b bios.. Checking if anything in his review says different.. Can't see anything that does except ->

Under X30 P3, it doesn't seem like the fan goes much faster than it did before.

I mean, for me, it would maybe only speed up 1000 RPM over the normal fan speed, and that would still only be half the speed the CPU fan was running.

That 3 hrs was the most glorious time I had. But after that It downclock like crazy. I have been going back and forth with x29b and x30 for like 15 times. x29b GPU fan appear louder and for longer period of time (average it last 30 mins and then downclock. X30 GPU fan sound softer and downclock within 15 mins. Strangely I find that the CPU fans kick in more and of longer period of time. I hoping they would reverse it (CPU FAN speed goes to GPU instead).

I tried ATI tool. It did not downclock but I only tested like an hour. But I think ATI tool is not a good tester as it dun swing the temp to both extreme.

I also realize that GPU fan will kick in during intensive moments and when u die and re-spawn (10 secs in between) the GPU fan will subside. Your 2nd round will be downclocking. It takes a while b4 fan kicks in again. On some nights its downclocking all the way - Strangely the CPU fan never subside. It blast thru the whole night.

Put on your cooler - Downclocking is worst.

I tried changing many video drivers and none work. It like stealth mode all the way. Re-insalling bios, Reformat, alienware respawn, etc. No help.

Sorry folks I think I sound like my granny's nagging :D

If they can't fix it, you can get a refund if you are on the initial 14 days (thats in the UK). If they can't fix it, you'll have to send it back BUT are responsible for freight charges! This was sent to me by and AW representative! It's a freaking joke...
I think you guys should work on an "official" NBR users letter to Engadget and flood their emails again stating that what AW is doing is throwing dirt into people's eyes, lying, desrespecting their clients (and potential clients), taking money from them and making them wait 3 months until they receive their laptop (and when they receive it, the laptop is outdated and there's cheaper and better solutions out)... I mean, is AW just a big April's Fool joke? Or am I being too paranoid? Why don't they start to take all laptops back, cancel the M15x and come up with a functional laptop? Or at least come up with a REAL solution! It's time to be pragmatic about it... AW screwed up really hard in about EVERYTHING that had to do with the M15x. EVERYTHING... and it enfuriates me, because now I don't want any other laptop besides the M15x (because it's the best) and at the same time I don't want THIS M15x.
    Bummer...
